Buried - Man what a scary situation to be in. I almost didnt want to watch this just 10 minutes in. That is just a very scary position to be in as I have said. I did watch the whole film however and thought it was a very effective film and did its job. I dont think the film has much replay value as it would be hard to sit through that again. Ryan did a great job and was very believable. Some of the things that took place were kinda questionable but then again I havnt seen a film like this or a situation like this so who knows how it would go down actually. What a way to end the film as well. I do recommend the film to atleast be seen once and a rental is the best way. Got Em!!

Film Rating - 3 1/2 stars (out of 5)

I was expecting to see a 4.5 after reading your review

Did you take off a bunch of credit for lacking replay value?

It'll be interesting to read your review. Foggy and I (along with a good amount of others) loved the movie, and there are some that hate it as well.

Well 3 1/2 stars for me means its a solid film. 4 1/2 stars means its a great film and this by no means was a great film. I gave it a solid score because of its effectiveness which is what carried the film for me. Reynolds was very solid as well but it was sumthin about the whole situation that was a bit sketchy. I almost gave it 4 stars which means it wouldve been a very good film but it fell just short of that. Lack of replay value couldve played a small part in it also because most films that I like usually do have replay value. Got Em!!

Spark - I had never heard of this film starring a younger Terrence Howard and Nicole Ari Parker. It was actually an alright film about Howard and his girlfriend getting stranded in the desert surrounding rednecks. It wasnt what I was expecting after reading the plot or quick overview of the film but it was still decent. Got Em!!

Film Rating - 3 stars (out of 5)

Scott Pilgrim...but only because it's a rental so you better watch it fast, you'll probably be too old to get it anyway

Law Abiding Citizen - 2009

This movie was lent to me by a friend. She thought I would like it, so I gave it a try.

I had no idea what it was about, but from the get go, it was quite interesting. Lots of twists and turns to the story. There were some far fetched ideas put into the plot, but it kinda worked... very Hollywood. Overall, I liked the story and all the surprises it had in store. Very entertaining movie, but the script could of been a little better. This movie is not very grounded in the real world, but it doesn't have to be. Just sit back, and enjoy.

PQ - 3/5

AQ - 4/5

3.75/5

Stand By Me

85 minutes

year: 1986
director: Rob Reiner
starring: Wil Wheaton, Jerry O'Connell, River Phoenix, and Corey Feldman

picked this up at wal-mart last night for $12. i thought i had seen this before, but apparently only a few clips of it, so this turned into a blind buy by accident. damn memory

a terrific film about childhood and growing up. bonding with friends before moving on to a new chapter of your life and how experiences shape you and can effect the rest of your life in small, or major ways. and how, as sad as it is, that no matter who you are when you're younger and who you're friends are, things change whether you want them to or not and people grow apart. but no matter what happens, you always take those memories with you and those generally mean more than anything else you come across.

a bittersweet ending that makes a profound impact probably as the years go on. i'm 23 and i almost got a bit teary-eyed as i realize just how true the film was. we've all had really good friends that we just kind of... fall away from. no one is at fault and you're not at each others throats, you simply... move on with your life. but it doesn't diminish the experiences. and that's what Stand By Me is all about.

a group of 4 "outcasts" each in their own sense who bond and while they have problems and issues like any friends do, they all get together and stand up for each other when the going gets tough.

great film all around. although, even for an 85 minute film, a few scenes kind of dragged for a bit, but that's my only major complaint.

highly recommended to all.
*** and while it seems very sappy and teary-eyed blubbering, there is also some great, crude humor here. lots of moments to be for sure. definitely gets it's R rating for a reason

4.5/5

I recently bought the Three Colors Trilogy (Kieslowski, The Double Life of Veronique) on DVD after borrowing the movies from the library. Yep, DVDs.

I love this trilogy. Each film lasts between 90 and 100 minutes, so it's not impossible to watch all three on the same day, or over two days. They can be viewed apart, but the final sequence of Red (the last part of the trilogy) has an incredible scene that would lose its impact if you haven't seen the whole trilogy.

I have a lot going on in my mind because, like Veronique, it encourages thought and reflection. I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it so I won't talk about it here.

For any fan of foreign film and metaphysical dramas, this series is a must.

Blue 4.5/5
White 4.5/5 (up from 4 on first viewing)
Red 5/5

The special features are extensive. I just watched two hours of features on Red alone.

Here's Ebert's review of Red, but try to see the films before reading it:

[Show spoiler]At this moment, in this cafe, we're sitting next to strangers.

Everyone will get up, leave, and go their own way, And then, they'll never meet again. And if they do, they won't realize that it's not for the first time.

- Krzysztof Kieslowski One of the opening images in "Red" is of telephone lines, crossing. It is the same in life. We are connected with some people and never meet others, but it could easily have happened otherwise.

Looking back over a lifetime, we describe what happened as if it had a plan. To fully understand how accidental and random life is - how vast the odds are against any single event taking place - would be humbling.

That is the truth that Kieslowski keeps returning to in his work. In "The Double Life of Veronique," there is even a moment when, if the heroine had looked out of a bus window, she might have seen herself on the street; it's as if fate allowed her to continue on one lifeline after choosing another. In "Red," none of the major characters knows each other at the beginning of the movie, and there is no reason they should meet. Exactly.

The film opens in Geneva, in an apartment occupied by a model named Valentine (Irene Jacob). She makes a telephone call, and the phone rings at the same time in an apartment just across the street, occupied by Auguste (Jean-Pierre Lorit), a law student. But she is not calling him. Her call is to her boyfriend, who is in England, and whom she rarely sees. As far as we know, Valentine and Auguste have never met. And may never meet. Or perhaps they will.

One day Valentine's car strikes a dog, and she takes it to the home of its owner, a retired judge (Jean-Louis Trintignant). He hardly seems to care for the dog, or for her. He spends his days in an elaborate spying scheme, using wiretaps to monitor an affair being carried on by a neighbor. There is an instant spark that strikes between the old man and the young woman - a contact, a recognition of similarity, or sympathy - but they are 40 years apart in age, strangers to one another, and have met by accident, and . . .

The story becomes completely fascinating. We have no idea where it is going, where it could possibly go. There is no plot to reassure us. No goal that the characters hope to attain. Will the young woman and the judge ever meet again? What will come of that? Does it matter? Would it be good, or bad? Such questions, in "Red," become infinitely more interesting than the questions in simple-minded commercial movies, about whether the hero will kill the bad guys, and drive his car fast, and blow things up, or whether his girlfriend will take off her clothes.

Seeing a movie like "Red," we are reminded that watching many commercial films is the cinematic equivalent of reading Dick and Jane. The mysteries of everyday life are so much deeper and more exciting than the contrivances of plots.

We learn something about Auguste, the law student who lives across the way. He has a girlfriend named Karin (Frederique Feder).

She specializes in "personal weather reports" for her clients, which sounds reasonable, like having a personal trainer or astrologer, until we reflect that the weather is more or less the same for everybody. But perhaps her clients live in such tight boxes of their own construction that each one has different weather.

Valentine talks to her boyfriend. They are rarely together.

He is someone on the phone. Perhaps she "stays" with him to save herself the trouble of a lover whose life she would actually share.

She goes back out to the house of the old judge, and talks to him some more. We learn more about the lives he is eavesdropping on.

There are melodramatic developments, but no one seems to feel strongly about them.

And Valentine and Auguste. What a good couple they would make! Perhaps. If they ever meet. And if, in the endless reaches of cosmic time, there had been the smallest shift in the lifetimes of Valentine and the Judge, they could have been the same age. Or another infinitesimal shift, and they would have lived a century apart. Or never lived at all. Or if the dog had wandered somewhere else, Valentine would not have struck him, and met the judge. Or if the judge had had a cat . . .

Think about these things, reader. Don't sigh and turn the page. Think that I have written them and you have read them, and the odds against either of us ever having existed are greater by far than one to all of the atoms in creation.

"Red" is the conclusion of Kieslowski's masterful trilogy, after "Blue" and "White," named for the colors in the French flag. He says he will retire now, at 53, and make no more films. At the end of "Red," the major characters from all three films meet - through a coincidence, naturally. This is the kind of film that makes you feel intensely alive while you're watching it, and sends you out into the streets afterwards eager to talk deeply and urgently, to the person you are with. Whoever that happens to be.

Default Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

USA 2010
Directed by Edgar Wright
With Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jason Schwartzman
Format : Blu-ray

How can I begin this? Ok only description that come's to my mind is the one that sort of hit me as I was watching it. This movie would be the result of what would happen if Mel Brooks & Quentin Tarantino had a child together and let him directed a movie The first 30 minutes were a bit of a drag, I was glad when things started to pick up. The movie is weird, very weird. I understand what they were trying to go with, turning the dating scene and the bagage of ex and break up into a video game format. Some of the jokes were a bit pass me, like it or not I am in my mid forties and I can see that this movie would work much better on a younger crowd. This was my third movie with Michael Cera (Superbad & Juno are the others) and I can start to say he is really not for me. I don't enjoy his style of acting nor the type of comedy he does.

Overall it's not a bad movie. Glad I saw it but I doubt I will bother to see it once more.

Megamind - I thoroughly enjoyed this film although I am not a big fan of Ferrell. Good thing it was just his voice over. Nice concept of a film and loved the Megamind character in general. I blind bought the film so I figured I would atleast somewhat like it but it was better than I thought. Also what is wrong with that bluray reviewer who gave the PQ 3.5?? That PQ was top notch to my eyes. Also loved Jonah Hill very much and didnt realize Brad Pitt did a voice over until after the film was over. Definite recommendation and it has very good replay value. Got Em!!

Film Rating - 4 stars (out of 5)

yeah, i never saw an episode before i didn't know if it would be something i would really be interested in at all, which was a bit stupid mistake on my part because this was already worth $25 with one episode down! i can't wait to see what else there is. and then i definitely gotta pick up Life too.
