My local Rave theater just converted one of their theaters into a IMAX so my girl friend and I decided do go check it out(we had never been to a IMAX). (watched sucker punch)The second we walked in my first thought was this screen is no bigger than the old screen they replaced. I thought IMAX was suppose to be huge! The quality was very good, better that the regular showings. But for the price I was not impressed. Then a buddies of mine text me and told me he had just got to the IMAX and said it was not a "real" IMAX that it was the smallest one he had seen.
I have been waiting for IMAX to get here and now that it is I am so disapointed. |

Yeah, that sounds dumb.
The only IMAX screens I've seen are the big real things, and they have been impressive. I'd suggest checking one out; don't let this cheap knockoff presentation dissuade you. |

Check this one out. It's only 5-10 minutes away from my house. http://www.santikos.com/palladiumex.php
Look at the virtual tours. |

My mother was working for Dr. Pepper last summer, and they gave her 2 free tickets to see "Iron Man 2", so she took me to the theater. The passes were good for either standard or IMAX showings, so we decided to see what all the ravings were about. I was definitely impressed by the picture quality, but the sound was so loud! I had real trouble getting immersed in the movie, because every time something happened, my ears started hurting. I like movies a little loud, but not that much; as such, I strongly doubt I'll be seeing any film in IMAX anytime soon.

My wife and I went to see "Inception" at the IMAX theater here in Santa Clara California. It was so LOUD we had to leave, and that's saying something, I have been a lead guitar player in rock bands professionally for 30+ years. I called and spoke to the management and they said only an IMAX tech can make adjustments and that they can't adjust the volume themselves in real time (ridiculous). I registered my complaint and he said he'd work on it and gave me free passes to another show. Anyone else experience volume issues at an IMAX theater?

I have 2 real IMAX in the area. Love going to those but most of the time I end up at one of the converted IMAX since it's alot closer. Plus no parking fee like at Navy Pier.
Not quite as good. Especially the sound. I saw Dark Knight on a real IMAX screen... Wow that was just awesome. |

I've seen a few IMAX films, most were in 3D, but, overall, I find "the IMAX experience" to be lacking, really. Certainly not worth the outrageous prices. Unless something is released as an "IMAX exclusive" and is also on my "must-see-in-the-theater" list, I won't go back.
