Love & Other Drugs - 4.5/5
Excellent drama with a sprinkling of comedy in it, truly one of the best movies of 2010. Strong performances from the two leads, Platt looked OLD. Think it would've done better in theatres if Fox had advertised it better than they did.

Fact: RealDoll is real.

Fact: Ryan Gosling is crazy good in everything.

Fact: Ryan Gosling is the most underrated actor working today.

Fact: "Lars and the Real Girl" is a delightfully unexpected gem you'll be very glad to have found.

There's something about "Lars" that makes it an astoundingly great achievement. Maybe it's how writer Nancy Oliver and director Craig Gillespie managed to take an idea of a man falling in love with a doll, make it into a feature-length film, and keep it fresh and interesting all throughout. Maybe it's the conscious realization of such a quirky, offbeat plot and its perfect marriage with an understated yet whimsical style that evokes a sort of modern day fairy tale vibe. Maybe it's lead actor Ryan Gosling, whose pitch-perfect delivery right down to his many subtle mannerisms breathes life into his character and makes his performance such an awe-inducing joy to watch. Maybe it's the equally impressive supporting cast of Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, and Patricia Clarkson. Maybe it's Bianca. Maybe it's this little film's substantial messages not just about love and loneliness, but also about coming together as a family and a community. Maybe it's all of the above. Maybe there's more.

One thing's for sure. "Lars and the Real Girl" is one film I am extremely pleased to have stumbled across of, because in the end, it doesn't matter whether you've actually fallen in love with a doll or not, or if the story and its characters' actions are unrealistic. It makes you forget about all that, brushing them aside with its undeniable charm, tugging at your heartstrings and making you feel good.

Rating: ****1/2 out of 5

Format: Blu-ray

In a word, GREAT! This movie was a lot of fun. It's good how Disney upgraded a sort of typical princess story into something more modern. Rapunzel was a very good strong character. The musical scene in the tavern with all the bad guys was so funny. I know that a lot of you seem to like Pascal a lot but I must say, while the character was good, I prefered Maximus. The hate/like relation him and Flynn have was hilarious. I truly enjoyed it from start to finish, not a single moment where you sort of say "well get on with it, it's getting a bit long". The entire movie was fun, the songs where well made and entertaining match with a fun story. Dreamworks really should sort of study this Disney or Pixar movies and learn a bit. You don't need big famous voice names and tons of cultural references in order to make a good, fun animation movie. That is why I feel like the Dreamworks animation won't last as long as the Disney or Pixar ones. In 20 years most of them will be nothing more then just animation movies that played once.

The Blu-ray is wonderful, great graphics and colors. There is no doubt this one will be added to my collection. Anyone who as not seen it, do so.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

112 minutes

year: 2005
director: Doug Liman
starring: Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie

okay. so in my haste of buying 14 blus on friday, one of them was Mr. & Mrs. Smith. a film i have never seen and while i was always somewhat interested in seeing it, i never did. but hell, seeing it time and time again for $10 always made me think, "why don't just buy the damn thing?" so on friday, i did exactly that. and today, i finally watched it.

so, this is the film that tore my best friend (true story) Brad Pitt away from my neighbor Jennifer Aniston? (true story as well) well shucks, i can only imagine why! ...although for Pitt's sake, i would forever fear that every movie that has a man starring alongside Jolie that fate would come up and bite him in the @ss...

the film is a rollercoaster of fun, goof ball humor, witty dialogue, sexual innuendos ("sometimes i did them two at a time"... "ugh. give me a minute" ) and tons of loud (VERY loud) explosions. typical Pitt humor and character here, and typical Angelina here. pretty much Pitt toned down from Ocean's Eleven (although dressed the same way) and Jolie from the Tomb Raider series (although not dressed the same way) and pre-Salt action heroine.

i was surprised at how quickly
[Show spoiler]they team up after attacking each other
, which was a nice surprise i guess, and the action scenes are pretty darn well choreographed and directed. the pacing is a bit off, as it seems to slow to a character study in some scenes and then relentless loud noises and bullets for what feels like years at a time in other scenes, but what the hell, who cares? is the film fun? yeah, pretty much all across the board it is. and it will stay in my collection.

not a personal favorite, and not something that i will remember for long, that's for sure, but was worth the $10 easily, and is fun for a lazy afternoon when you want something that isn't super "macho man" action-y (a la Predator for example).

That pretty much sums it up. I LOVE the scene when they are
[Show spoiler]making reveals to each other in the mini-van and fighting the bad guys.
Brad Pitt = Hilarious.

I nabbed it for $8 on Black Friday; it's worth that much, but not a penny more for me.

Agreed. The pacing is a little weird in this one, and I look at it as one of few "boring" action movies that I shouldn't like, but I do and watch it pretty reguarly. Just like "Elektra" and the "Noir" anime series (all three of these involve assassins, come to think of it...)

Weird, isn't it?

Default Confessions (Kokuhaku) (2010)

Genre: Drama / Crime / Mystery / Thriller
Synopsis: A psychological thriller of a grieving mother turned cold-blooded avenger with a twisty master plan to pay back those who were responsible for her daughter's death.
Running Time: 106 minutes

Director: Tetsuya Nakashima (Memories of Matsuko)
Writers: Kanae Minato, Tetsuya Nakashima (Kamikaze Girls)
Stars: Takako Matsu (The Hidden Blade), Masaki Okada (Halfway), Yoshino Kimura (Sukiyaki Western Django), Yukito Nishii, Kaoru Fujiwara, Ai Hashimoto

Revenge has never been colder.

Nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Award in this year's Oscars, "Confessions" begins with high-school teacher Ms. Moriguchi announcing her retirement to her disrespectfully rowdy class. Having their complete attention, she follows it up with yet another startling revelation - her daughter was recently murdered by two students in her class. From here on, it goes down the hill of Morality Lane and straight to hell. But my, what a twisted fun time it is rolling down that path.

"Confessions" is disturbing, dazzling, and nothing short of brilliant. It dares to bring up a lot of unspoken and unsettling points about high school, the youth, justice, accountability, morality, society, and humanity that I wager you will never see brought up in American films. This movie has balls, people, and it proudly flaunts them from start to finish. It is relentlessly cold and frank, placing mankind's dirty, dark sides dead center on a microscope.

Stylishly shot and frenetically paced, "Confessions" feels like one epic music video, constantly pressing on forward (it quickly reveals the killers' identities in the first-fourths of the film) while descending further and further into a dark abyss as it relentlessly bombards you from every angle with twist after twist up to the demented grand finale, which shoots this movie straight up to ridiculous heaven and into near-classic status.

Forget "Oldboy." This is "Oldboy" with substance. This is "Pulp Fiction" meets "Battle Royale." This is quiet revenge cranked up to 11.

So, sit back and watch the dominoes fall, as Ms. Moriguchi schools her students for one last lesson on payback. Nobody messes with the teacher. Nobody.

Yeah. I really liked this movie too. Comedy, drama, passion....A little bit of a critique of the drug industry. Good stuff.

Just got my other rental for the week (since Tangled was from my members points) Legen Of The Guardians The Owls Of Ga Hoole. Have not heard much about this one, seem it just went right under the radar. I will try to watch it to night if World Of Warcraft does not call too me

Nice review. Yes, my whole family enjoyed this one. Updated but still classic Disney fun. My 9 year old daughter and her best friend were acting out scenes from this one after they saw it. It reminded me of when I did that with my friends at the age of 6--but we did silly stuff like Speed Racer and the three stooges. Oh, we did Woody Allen's Sleeper too!

Nobody.

Rating: ****1/2 out of 5

Oh, I regret not being able to catch this last year at TIFF. I can only hope it becomes available on disc up here. Thanks for the review.

Paranormal Activity 2 - 4.5/5
I'd say the thing that makes it a bit better than the original is this girl right here

Watched Mission Impossible III

I liked it, it was a good blockbuster. It maintained breakneck pace and constantly kept you on the edge of your seat, (though I don't like the fact it has that scene in the opening, just kinda ruined a very effective tense scene taking it out of content like that, it also added cheese value to some elements of the film).

Ving Rames is awesome
Philip Seymour Hoffman is awesome
[Show spoiler](Though his villain death SUCKS!!!!)

Some of the stuff that explodes in this film is awesome
However Lens Flare, not so awesome

It's a fun film, what else can I say.

7.5/10
[Show spoiler](would of been an 8 if villain get a better death, like serious)

P.S. it's better than MI 2, but less memorable and not as good as MI 1

Oh man, this is one hell of a movie not to be missed. I feel like my star rating doesn't really give it justice. If I'd rate it using the decimal system, I'd say it's a solid 4.9 out of 5, with my only gripe being the way the confessions/flashbacks were juggled. it's just minor really and you get the hang of it eventually just as long as you pay attention and keep up with its fast pace. And I just have to say once more that the final act is just pure, sick genius. The final line in this film is also now one of my all-time favorites (along with Spacey's line about the devil in "The Usual Suspects").

Default Easy A

Easy A

USA 2010
Directed by Will Gluck
With Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes
Format: HDTV

If you are a fan or you enjoyed this movie, may I warn you right now to maybe just skip the rest of my post, you won't enjoy reading it

This was playing last night on The movie Network and so decided to have a look. Been hearing about it in this forum for some time. I did not enjoy it at all. For me it was nothing more then a cheap knock off of a movie call Can't Buy Me Love (for those of you too young, check under Patrick Dempsey sometime in the mid 80's ). I did not laugh that much and truly felt the subject stupid and rather boring. If this is all it take for American teens to become this taken over a subject, I truly feel sorry for the lot of them. The movie was nothing more then an expensive soap opera that lasted 90 minutes. The characters were rather lame, sterotypical and not very remarkable. My recommendation, rent Can't Buy Me love and have a much better time. It's funny, cute and does not try to be overly preachy and does not try to take itself so seriously. Easy A fall into the category, do not waste your time with it.
