Is there a way to tell from the unopened versions on store shelves??? Someone mentioned the lack of 2 disc version on the back but every one I see on store shelves has that on the back.

In case you missed it, and I don't know how you could unless you were too lazy to read the thread, check the top of this page. Intstructions are there and these have been posted a LOT.

This thread popping up made me realize that I completely forgot to send my disc in for the exchange. I decided to take my original copy back to the place I got it and I got an even exchange for one with a yellow UPC. All fixed and it looks much better.

The yellow UPC advice is wrong - lots of old, unremastered copies have been found to have the yellow UPC code. Do not rely on the yellow UPC as an accurate indicator.

This thread should be combined with the Remastered exchange thread at this point, as they both deal with the exact same thing.

Can someone just answer that? I'm sure several of us would like to know.
It's funny, I asked this question on both Gladiator threads and nobody is able to post the answer. Can somebody just please answer this simple question? Thanks.

I saw a used Blu of Gladiator today - the case did not say 2-disc and the date on printed paper wrap said 2010. So I assumed it was the re-mastered set.

However, when I examined the BDs themselves, they had a 2009 date.

Did the re-mastered 2010 Blus keep the same disc art & the "2009" date around the edge of the disc, as the 2009 pressings?

I didn't buy it, but if the disc art for the 2010 remaster also says "2009", I might go back and pick it up.

Gladiator was re-released on blu-ray roughly last August, so if you buy it from Amazon or Best Buy they will have the fixed versions, which if I remember correctly come with a yellow UPC.

So if I buy from Amazon or Best Buy.. it will be a "tru-Blu" version of the film, not Pan and Scan?

Pan and Scan means that a film has been modified to fill a certain aspect ratio. I.E. A 2.35:1 film modified to fill a 1.33:1 television.

There is no "pan and scan" on Blu-ray Discs. There are 1.78:1 cropped presentations but no artifical scans have been added to these.

The issue with Gladiator is that the orgiinal pressings were digitally noise reduced significantly. The new pressings are from a newly created director approved master. It is unclear if all of Amazon's distributuon warehouses are stocked out on the first pressings.

uuuuuhhhh, there never was a pan and scan version available. it was always a Tru-blu. just the picture quality has been upgraded. went through a restoration process. nothing more

Thank you for clearing this up for me. So I guess I will place my order from Amazon, then check the "little numbers" on the inside of the disc to see if it is re-mastered..

Well I just ordered my Gladiator from Amazon.. I will be studying this thread and carefully checking out my box & disc to make sure I have the remastered version.

If I do not get the remastered, what steps do I need to take to get it?

Thanks in advance..

Read here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...am-thread.html

But let us know if you actually got the remastered version from Amazon. I am still holding off buying it until I am certain that Amazon only ships the remastered version.

OK.. I got:
1. White UPC code
2. I don't see any "2 Disc Set" near Paramount Emblem
3. I got the Dark "Gladiator" Intro Scene, not Yellow
4. The only digits I see on the disk are - 04001

So do I have remastered, or first release?

I'm pretty sure you got the old version as the new ones should have a yellow UPC sticker. I've seen both in stores, FWIW.

I initially bought the old version from Best Buy and had to do the exchange. Now when I look at Best Buy and Target, I still see old copies (with the white UPC) on the shelves, mixed with new copies (with the yellow UPC). The old versions should really be pulled off the shelves.
