I liked the Tim Burton version of POTA. The first thing I thought of when I saw the ending was "When is the sequal coming out?" Last edited by SVTRacer; 01-02-2008 at 08:39 PM. |

Same here. I loved the new version a lot. Granted I like the classics too - but I would prefer an "updated" version. I am sad they did not do any sequels. I really wish they did. I also think I might be somewhat BI because I love Mark Wahlberg! Lol. He is an excellent actor. ![]() |

I don't see why there couldn't be another POTA movie made.
Case in point; Batman Begins, and the forthcoming Dark Knight. Most thought the Batman franchise was dead after the George Cloony (Batman & Robin) film. And it was dead for all pratical purposes. The Incredible Hulk movie flopped, and another version is coming out this year I think. With Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. So ...maybe there's hope for another Planet of the Apes, but I don't expect one anytime soon. just my 02 cents worth. ![]() |

Old fears and traumas from the survivors bubbled beneath the surface for a year, and didn't explode until the summer of '02, when action-blockbuster studio execs wailed and tore their hair in the face of the Great Orange Fish... But back in '01, blockbuster studio execs thought the very end of days was upon them, when POTA, Tomb Raider 1, Pearl Harbor, Atlantis, Swordfish, Jurassic Park III, A.I., and Final Fantasy all died within weeks of arrival at the box office. Business analyses about the "death of Hollywood" began erupting right and left in the middle of this catastrophe, and that this was marking some calamitous permanent sea-change in the entire industry--That the "surefire" blockbuster that had been hyped for two solid years could disappear in a matter of weeks was to them some ravaging sudden disease outbreak that science couldn't cure. Later on, Lara Croft became the symbolic "martyr" for the Lost Summer that no one could explain, but during those three months, one name became a fear, and studios shuddered as to why the Apes had died in vain with "no known cause". (And never mind the fact that we were all going back to see the first "Shrek" for lack of anything else to see that summer, and what that ended up doing to Dreamworks' ego...) Don't talk to studio execs about making POTA happen again. The very name is a very private, far-reaching symbolic pain for them. ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 01-03-2008 at 03:28 AM. |

LOL... it's funny thing to find this thread now because I just rented this movie last week too and I really enjoyed it. I thought I watched this back in 2001 when it was new, but I didn't really remember much so it was like watching it for the first time all over again.
Oh....and I wouldn't exactly call "Hulk" a flop, unless you consider $245 Million a flop. |

Well, it may not have been a remake of the 60's film, but it was a remake--
In retelling the story of humanity reduced to an primitive stone-age existence, and treated as animals by their larger, hairier subjugators, who're too busy backstabbing each other in their own petty quests for power to notice the lone enlightened wandering stranger who inspires the humans to rise up and rebel.... That's right, ladies and gentlemen, it's not a remake of the 60's film-- IT'S A REMAKE OF BATTLEFIELD: EARTH!!!! ![]() |

Hey everyone,
sorry to bring up this older thread, but just thought I'd put my question here: Will there "ever" (as in like in the next year or two) be a new release of this film? There probably isn't a big audience for it, thus the studio might not really do anything for it. But apparently the one that's out there isn't that great. The video is apparently quite average and the extras seem to be down to a single commentary-track. It would be nice to have some behind-the-scenes-stuff for such a film too. Besides, with those reasons included, I don't really like the earlier barebone releases anyway. But I do really like this film, so I hope for a nicer version at some point. Should I hold my breath for it or just forget about it until a next format?... I have no idea what could be a trigger for a new version to come out. I don't think there's anything 'Planet Of The Apes' on the horizon any time soon huh? No films as far as I know, no series, the BDs of the originals are out... Why would they, demand from the "fanbase"? lol :P |

I wish they'd put out a new edition of the film, too. I own the current BD version and the PQ definitely leaves a bit to be desired. Burton's film definitely isn't the best of the series, but I enjoy it. And I'm one of the few who loves the ending....
![]() There was a lot of news about a year ago that there were plans to make sort of a revised version of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes telling the story of how apes first rose against humans. I haven't heard anything since these stories though, unfortunately: http://www.beyondhollywood.com/hail-...sequel-rumors/ |

+1 The ending of the Tim Burton version left me guessing at the end and was hoping for a sequel. Hollywood has the tools to do it but since a lot of people didn't like it, it might not happen.

I was like... well about 13 years old first of all, but also like "Holy cr*p! ![]() And me and my father walked out the cinema talking about like there probably will be a sequel. Expecting it like right the next year or something too. But nothing so far... Well, back then we didn't even know it wasn't that appreciated. That even Tim Burton himself hated it later on... or something like that. But he should know that there is some good appreciation for it. Even if it's different from the original, it's a pretty awesome film. |
