So the PSN is down. Do you know why it's down? No. You're (people here in general) are just crying.

If Sony said it was down because they felt like it then fine, be pissed. But for all you know this is an attack on the PSN where a hacker group is trying to steal credit card info and they're trying to clean up.

Point is. It's FREE. You don't HAVE to play on-line. Just because you PREFER it doesn't mean you HAVE to.

My self interest is to have a life and not cry because a free on-line service is down. And yes I'm a PSN+ member. But what does that matter? The store was already updated and I got what I wanted from PSN+ this week.

Any downtime to the store after that is just hurting them, not me.

What's a more perplexing mystery of modern life is how EVERYONE thinks the world owes them something...
+1

i wish there was a "slow clap" emoticon because that would be completely perfect here.

Agreed. No sense in griping over something I have no control over; it will be available when they believe it's ready.

PlayStation®Network Service Outage 4/21/2011Answer ID: 2185

We’re aware certain functions of PlayStation Network are down. It may be a full day or two before we’re able to get the service completely back up and running. Please stay tuned to this space for more details, and we’ll update you again as soon as we can.

Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter.

During this time you may:

Not be able to access the PlayStation®Store
Have difficulty signing in to the PlayStation®Network
Not be able to play online games
See a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation®Network

Note: When you log into the PlayStation Network, a message may appear which states, "the PlayStation Network has been suspended". This does not mean that your account has been suspended; it simply means the PlayStation Network has been taken offline. Please wait until the maintenance window has passed before attempting to connect to the PlayStation Network again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I think it's up again. The development server is up, at least, so maybe retail is, too.

I'm guessing for those random games (at least a couple of Capcom games) that don't let you play offline aren't working as well.

Pretty sure he means 11/11/11 - which is Skyrim's release date.

Worst part is all these people that are going to have to go to the gym, spend time with their wives, girlfriend or children instead or even worse do some cleaning or homework.

If anything, I bet it's some knit-wit who's trying to prove himself worthy enough of the attention of those running the group. Perhaps an attempt for some loser to say, "See... I should be a member. Look what I did to your arch-nemesis! Let's get together for coffee sometime and talk about our future criminal activities together."
I hope these idiots don't think they'll get any sympathy(from me at least). Making everyone pay is not the way to make people understand your plight.

If the hackers themselves are 'idiots' or 'nitwits,' then how should we label Sony's IT people?

Edited to add; My guess is that the PSN log-in requirement is most likely for data gathering purposes (to know how many subscribers are logging in from which devices).
Very interesting that they allow that when there's a perfectly good authorization system already built-in. I was just about to post your edit add. I'd tell your friends to be careful sharing their Netflix account around. I don't know what the rules are, but you can bet Sony and/or Netflix are fully aware of which PSN/PS3 systems are using a Netflix account. There's also the moral side of it but that's a completely different matter.

Your point is that they're inept? Network security specialists have to be perpetually preparing for any of a thousand possible contingencies, and they have to be right every time. The hacker only has to be right once, just like any other terrorist.

I was so looking forward to getting my PC copy of Portal 2 up and running.

I guess I now have time to do something important like writing an experimental design paper for class.

Whether you agree or not, I don't think you're in a position to judge how "rounded" some people's lives are. Your arrogant statement (and attitude) is completely unwarranted. Also, this is a section of a forum where a LOT of people game and hunt trophies frequently. This sort of reaction should not be surprising.

You also have to realize that these reactions are compounded by the surrounding circumstances:

1) Three big games released this week.
2) Easter weekend.
3) Some children have an extra day off tomorrow for Easter/Good Friday. And this one school day they have off until June and extra day for the weekend, they can't play their new games online.

In a situation like this, complaining and whining is a natural and understandable consumer response. But it just seems you can't deal with the negative reactions.

Just because the PS service is free doesn't mean that consumers can't complain or voice their annoyance with not being able to play $60 games online. Consumers expect it to be fully functional upon buying a PS3 and when it isn't, they naturally can be upset.

Now, I won't comment on people demanding games or rewards for putting up with it. I won't demand it, but I sure won't turn it down.
