Yet another BD which kills the theater experience and HD-DUD once for all
Resident Evil 3 link: http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/140020/ Video: "RE3 looks a lot better in Blu than the film print I saw. Of course the BD isn’t as many generations removed as modern, commercial film based projection. But it almost doesn’t even look like the same cinematography in terms of resolve. Sony has done a superb job as usual in preserving RE3 in high def, leaving little room for criticism outside of subjective appeal. Fades, transitions, none revealed any significant problems with compression. The grainier and other more demanding scenes appeared very well preserved by the discs allocated bit budget." "Detail is generally exquisite, extending well into the upper frequency range. Milla’s facial features look excessively retouched in a lot of her close-ups, similar to Ultraviolet, but not quite as extreme. In high def, some of the more distanced shots actually show more facial character of the series’ heroine than most close-ups. But the effect didn’t appear to be applied to any of her costars. Maybe the character, clone or whatever she’s supposed to be, isn’t supposed to show signs of aging. There was little softening detected elsewhere though. With the occasional exception of a nighttime scene or a heavy effects shot, the image always looks extremely crisp. The hot desert sun works on shadows and color depth during the day and chromatic tainting of some of the interiors prevent some darker scenes from looking as deep as others, but the video still affords a very seductive dynamic. " Audio is outstanding too as Usually. |

Don't forget! Public gaming arcades are getting fewer and fewer because the home consoles now are better than the arcade games. People save a lot of money that way in the long run. I use to hang around game parlors and play video games all day while wasting money. But that was back in the day when Street Fighter II was popular. Those days are pretty much gone now

I still love the movie experience. There is a new theater by my house now that has all digital screens. Pictures look amazing now. I love Blu, but I am not going to compare it to a theater experience; especially IMAX.
As for arcades, trust me, they are still popular. Dave and Busters and Game work's are always packed. People go for the social and interactivity experiences. Again, I love my PS3, my HDTV, my home theather, and Blu movies; but I also like doing things outside my home too. |

I agree, with some exceptions. When I have a bunch of friends together and we want to watch a movie, we'll go the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin. Drinking beer and eating good food while catching a new release is pretty awesome. Other than that, we haven't been to any other type of theater in quite some time.

This not just happening with blu-ray either. It is also happening with sports games. More people would rather stay home and watch a game in HD then actually go to the game. I love HD and cannot get enough of it. Glad I have DirecTV especially with all their HD channels now. And of course Blu-Ray, how can you go wrong with either?

If it's the digital, dlp theater experience, i'd probably pick that (i like to get out) most of the time. But watching the bluscape isn't too shabby either, especially when I don't feel like getting out.
However, if I had a bigger tv, better surround and all that, I'd probably pick staying at home for movies much more (think of all the money invested anyway). So I see where you're coming from. I definitely see a lot less movies in theaters nowadays. |

I think movies themselves are killing the movie theatre experience. BD is just making it easier to stay home. For the cost of going to the movies you can wait and own the movie. Also there are very few movies coming out that really need to be "experienced" in a theatre. Indiana Jones and Dark Knight are a couple that I think you need to see in theatres, but most of the summer blockbusters just don't cut it anymore. Dramas and romantic comedies just don't merit big screen attention. Hollywood has little to offer us to make us want to go to the movies anymore.

I agreed, I am kinda lazy to go movie now days and it cost over $10 for movie. I jsut wait till they release on blu and rent it for $2 and later buy it on blu if I am gonna see it again and again.

I've found that the opposite is true as well. While the PQ and AQ of most BDs are much better than what can be experienced in a theater, thus making it better to just wait for the BD, some theaters are really starting to take it up a notch. There are two theaters on the southern TN/GA border that have all DLP projectors. Ocean's Thirteen and the more recent AVP2 were so crystal clear and sounded so amazing that I had absolutely no need to watch it again on BD. Normally I see the big movies in the theater and then enjoy seeing a much clearer, better sounding version at home without all the stupid people and screaming children. But when you see it perfect the first time, there is little need to see it again.

+1. I just saw National Treasure 2 earlier in the week (first trip to the theater since this past summer) and couldn't get over how horrible the picture quality was and the huge lack of detail as opposed to my Blu-ray discs. I will be avoiding the theater from here on out until they upgrade to HD. The only films I plan on seeing are triplpe A titles like The Dark Knight.
