Why does Blu-ray have superior cover art?

I seriously doubt any graphic artist for a DVD cover was told "Whatever you do, make it crappier than the Blu-Ray cover."

It's all too subjective anyway. I like the artwork for the 1-Disc DVD loads better than the Blu-Ray cover for Inglourious Basterds. Of course, by the same token, I'm sure there are that many more that prefer the Blu cover. All too subjective.
