I saw Rene Russo's name...but forgot she was in the movie

I mentioned Sif: Her last name is Alexander.

It's still quite light compared to previous years. Iron Man 2 people where everywhere. And it was the entire cast.

Collider interview with Feige.

Says there was a mention of Ant Man in the film but it was removed. Also mentions Odin's Vault a little.

Yeah, the local theater in my town is getting it in 3D only. Doesn't bother me in anyway. I got a free pass to see it.

I had a chance to see a sneak preview of the film last night at a print preview (I know the manager).

Bryan Singer once called his original X-Men film "an extended preview" to a larger film, a larger universe. Thor feels exactly the same way. It is a solid film. In terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's the third best film behind Iron Man and Iron Man 2 (a film that's got problems) and the reason for it is because, like the Incredible Hulk, this film is edited within an inch of it's life. The absolute main reason why this film overcomes its editing, unlike the Incredible Hulk, is because of the strong story of Loki and the great lead performance by Hemsworth and his chemistry with Portman. I think it was Kevin Feige that said that Hemsworth and Portman have the best chemistry of all their on screen couples in the Marvel films and I agree, except that they're just not given enough room to flesh it out. RDJ and Paltrow's story feels more intellectually honest in the two Iron Man films because they're just given more and are given time to make it work properly. That's not the case here for Hemsworth and Portman even though their chemistry is readily apparent.

If the film would've given more room to the first act in Asgard between the father and his two sons and then later between the brothers (in the present) and their differences and in the second act, a more proper introduction to Jane and her arc, this would've been a strong, strong film. Personally, you can just feel the cuts in this film. There's some character connective tissue that's missing that would've, I think, made the film feel more honest...given it more room to breathe and not feel so rushed.

It's a safe picture. It definitely feels like a Marvel film (one of my main issues with Marvel films in comparison to DC's interesting output. I guess that's what their going for but at the same time, there's no surprises). The Asgard stuff is way more compelling than the Earth scenes but those work fine too because of Hemsworth and Portman. The visual effects are decent. It's not going to win any awards. It's not out right embarrassing. But, in 2011, it should've been better. But, I do understand the difficulty in some of the visuals they had to pull off. I can say that it was no easy feat.

Action wise, I give the film enormous credit for showing epic comic book action. I mean, Thor's abilities are striking. The film earns major points in that department. It's big stuff. As a personal aside, Thor's showdown with Loki felt like a straight rip off (but in a good way) of the showdown between He-Man and Skeltor in Masters of the Universe. That made me smile. The other thing that made me smile and it might be my absolute favorite scene in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe is the "I need a horse" scene. I howled at the moment. It just felt absolutely right.

The SHIELD stuff wasn't intrusive but you easily could've done without it.

Honestly, because my knowledge of Thor is absolutely next to nothing, I enjoyed the world. I kind of wish that Thor's character wasn't tied to the Avengers nonsense because I see an epic slate of films that could be had with this character and with Hemsworth at the helm. He's great. His scenes with Downey should be really, really interesting.

But, I can't shake the feeling of how safe and sometimes how small the film gets. But, I understand the balancing act that Marvel had to play with it. Still, Thor's change of heart was too quick. It/We needed more.

All in all, I enjoyed it but it needed more room to breathe because it has a great story to two brothers' journeys.

Great news! I'm glad to see it doing so well already over seas. Hopefully this trend continues and is a hit here as well. It may be my favorite Marvel movie so far, so I'm hoping it does great here.

Just came back from a morning screening here. Enjoyed it a lot. Though it should be illegal for Natalie Portman to be so damn attractive. Its almost depressing how hot she it.

You presume too much, Senator...

(Hey, at least she got to survive those movies with her career intact.)

3D over 2D though? My theater just put up that it is showing in both and since this isn't Avatar level 3D and it is more expensive and I don't have to wear glasses, I am stoked to be able to go to a 2D showing but if someone wants to persuade me otherwise I am listening!

I wasn't impressed by the 3D. I'd say it's better to stick with the 2D version. Just my opinion though.

I actually am motivated more by the quality of the sound system, If I were to choose between the 2 of course. 2d ones here get placed in houses with beat up speakers. It is as simple as pie for me haha.

Yea, it's definitely the best conversion I've seen. It blew those other movies from last year out of the water. But one of my biggest complaints about it was the glasses make the image darker, and during the scene with the Frost giants at the beginning, it was a little hard to tell what was going on because the scene itself was dark.
