Hey everyone.
been lurking for a few and decided to hp aboard being i just got a ps3 for blu ray. i am moderately proficient in the hobby but here is my dilemma: i have a samsung dlp with one hdmi, ps3 with hdmi and digital audio (optical), directv hr20 with hdmi and optical only no coaxial audio, and a xbox 360 with digital optical. i use a yamaha with no hdmi pass through. i need a switch that handles both hdmi and digital optical. i know i can just buy a new receiver but i don't want to do so until i move to a bigger place( plan on buying after 3 yrs) i just want to use my existing but i am tired of manually unplugging to switch off. any thoughts guys? plus i don't want one of those 500 dollar ones(crazy price, can buy a receiver for that!) |

You can put your X-Box360, your Direct TV HD, and your PS3 through a HDMI splitter. One HDMI cable from the splitter ,to your Samsung TV. Then you can run opticals from all of those to an optical splitter. then 1 optical off of your splitter to your receiver...so you will have just 1 optical cable going to your receiver... and 1 HDMI to your TV. Just use your TV as a monitor. your TV will stay on the same input all of the time!....Def

Hey Darkfear,
Go to monoprice.com and look at their HDMI switches. Many folks on this site recommend the monoprice products. I use monoprice cables but have yet to use their switch. If I ever needed an HDMI switch I would go to monoprice first. ![]() |

i agree that eventually a new receiver is the way but i plan to move in a few years and plan to do a huge upgrade of tv, receiver, speakers, etc then. for now i just need something to keep me from constantly switching cables that can do audio as well. the noise issue concerns me a little but that was one dude. unless you know more or where i can find a better review resource.
