I honestly think it would be a slap in the face to fans. I was so worried they'd go there with the fourth. Thankfully that didn't happen. I doubt Campbell would even return for another.

Anyway, I love the series and was very pleased with the fourth. Hope this won't be the last. All fans better scoop up the Blu-ray right away and show them that there's still interest despite low Box Office returns.

It's getting close to matching its budget in the US alone, so it's not exactly a box office flop. It's just that it didn't gross as much as its predecessors, which is a shame since Scream 4 is one of the best installments of the franchise.

It won't match it's budget domestically, will end up with 38 million. It wasn't a flop but it was a big disappointment. It didn't even gross half of what Scream 3 did and that's without inflation.

I agree 100%

If they took the humor out and focused on the Horror it would have been so much better.

It is still a good film though IMO.

I think we won't hear any other news on Scream 5 till late October - December.

Bob Weinstein made money on this film ahead of video. He's not looking at domestic versus foreign - he's looking at keeping his studio chugging along. There will be another Scream.

Neve has already said she will be returning for a 5th film if given the chance along with Courtney and David.

What else does she have to do? Haven't seen her in anything mainstream lately.

Wes Craven Chooses Summer Break Over 'Scream 5'

Quote:
Ok, the title is a bit misleading, considering there's been no offer (that we know of) for Wes Craven to return for a fifth Scream this summer -- and even in the Weinstein brothers wanted to do it (as they stated here), they're going to have to wait until at least this fall.

Craven told EW that him and his wife will be taking a well-deserved break from filmmaking: "I'm taking the summer off," he insists. "I directed and produced, and my wife [Iya Labunka] produced, both 'Scream 4' and the previous film, 'My Soul to Take', and they were both very difficult films. So we just decided, 'You know what? We’re going to spend the summer someplace nice and not think about film for a while.'"

That'll give Ghostface (or Ghostfaces) some time to come up with a motive for the next film...
Happy he's taking a break and they aren't just rushing straight into a 5th film to get it released as soon as possible.

Yeah, that's cool with me, as long as it still gets made within the next couple years

Wes deserves it. MSTT and Scream 4 i'm sure were very hard projects.

As long as Scream 5 gets made in the next 2-3 years i'm cool with that.

Yeah judging by the article it seems like their is a chance it could even start this Fall or move forward a little.

Please dont make another one. 2 and 3 were HORRIBLE movies, I want to shake people who think otherwise. Part 4 wasnt great but good. They have to stop it now before the series becomes thinned out like Nightmare and Friday films. Plus Sydney is running out of relatives to be the killer!

I'm happy for them to take time to focus on writing & solidifying whatever the next idea is. I think if they started preproductino it in 2012 and released it October 2013, that'd be perfect.

That's your opinion. Many people think Scream 2 is the best sequel to a film.

Totally agree Scream 2 is one of the best sequels to a film I have seen no matter the genre and 4 was really good. 3 was weak but IMO still better then most sequels and horror films and I have faith in a 5th one as well.

I also think Scream would do a lot better around Halloween time.

I agree with everything you said.

and Scream 4 would have done so much better around October. It was so obvious it wasn't going to do good going up against Rio and then Fast Five i don't understand how the studio didn't see this.

Scream 5 has to be a October release.

Yeah the one thing I never understood is why most horror films don't get an October release. Wolfman, Let Me In, Friday the 13th remake and the Nightmare Remake. I mean October is the horror month but most horror movies come out either before or after Halloween which never made sense.

Yeah.

Movies like Friday the 13th i can understand why it was released in February as they wanted it to be on Friday the 13th.
The others you have stated i agree on they should be released in October.

I presume it's because times have changed
