Default One Last Favor to ask Gods...err, Mods.

There's a rogue who goes by the name of Shark who's infecting the Movie reviews - particularly the Harry Potter ones. Could those be erased? Read them for yourself, if you must, but they are unnecessary.

Thanks.

Disappointed with Video Quality
This movie on Blu-ray Disc suffers from the same artifacts as all movies created for HD DVD. Warner Brothers and Paramount, Master in VC 1 for HD DVD and use the same Master to create their Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. This limits the quality to the original VC 1 Master. Sony realized at the vary beginning that Mpeg 2, which is almost identical to VC 1, wasn't going to be good enough and began using AVC which has a Variable Bit rate which allows them to decrease the amount of video compression used. Reducing video compression greatly improves the picture quality. SONY also started using Uncompressed PCM Audio. The extra storage space on the Blu-ray disc makes AVC and PCM Audio possible on Blu-ray but impossible on HD DVD. The HD DVD owners are convinced that HD DVD is as good as Blu-ray because they are using Warner Brother’s and Paramount Movies which are released in both formats to do the comparison, which means they are being fooled buy the same Master which is going to look exactly the same on both formats because they are created from the same Master which was created for HD DVD. For those of us who are used to Blu-ray movies Mastered in AVC for Blu-ray the difference is clear, more vibrant colours. larger number of colours and shades, smoother motion and movement of on screen action, greater clarity and detail. More surround sound Languages, and more sub titles. HD DVD movies tend to have a much softer picture with a soap film like hue in dark pictures that you cans see quite clearly in the Harry Potter movies as they shot a lot in the dark. Also, the colors tend to look a bit saturated and lacking in variation as colours do depending on the direction of the light. This gives the HD DVD movies a solid colour look rather than the varying shades of the same colour we see in nature. No doubt HD DVD has superior resolution to standard DVD's but are the same in all other areas of their look which is why so many people claim their DVD's look just as good. Bottom line, I recommend waiting until Warner Brother's brings there standard up to SONY, Disney, and FOX before purchasing there movies on Blu-ray as they are no better than HD DVD when they come from the same Master, and there is simply to much Video compression used in the creation of HD DVDs. The Increased resolution of the HD DVD Master just makes the compression artifacts more apparent. It wouldn’t hurt to let Warner know how you feel about being sold an HD DVD copied to a Blu-ray disc either. MGM has also been releasing Blu-ray movies in Mpeg 2 which won’t be any better than VC 1, so you should avoid them as well. If movies in AVC, PCM, sell better, then the studios will release everything in AVC, PCM. Also, if Warner can sell just as many movies in both formats they won’t have any incentive to release exclusively on Blu-ray, so I would collect movies from Sony, Fox, and Disney first, as there are enough titles being released from those three studios to keep you happy until MGM and Warner Brothers raise their standards to AVC, PCM. I realize that many of you don’t have a wide screen TV bigger than 37” and so, don’t see much of a difference between Blu-ray, HD DVD, or even your DVDs, but remember, Big screen TVs will continue to drop in price and you’ll eventually be able to get a 46” or 52” wide screen TV and you don’t want to find out then that your movie collection quality falls short of your expectations and have to replace them again. Bottom line is anyone buying movies encoded in VC 1 is buying HD DVD copied onto a Blu-ray disc. The disc will only be as good as the disc or Master you copied it from and therefore will look exactly the same on both formats.

It's not just on the reviews, he also has it in other places.

I agree with the OP. These posts should be deleted. Some of these comments are for movies that aren't even out yet (Michael Clayton and The Invasion) so there's actually no point to them at all.

I wonder if this is the same person as RiderFan. They were on the WB going exclusive thread constantly asking why Blu Ray is better and then saying they saw time and again that Blu Ray players were breaking down. I ended up in a heated discussion with this person.
