All of your major computer markers are supporting Blu-ray. Apple is soon to reveal their plans on Jan. 15th. at MacWorld. You can say you will but Dell, Compac, HP, Sony, and Apple make up most of the computer world and they are all Blu-ray!!!!

I think if both formats end up failing (because of a stalemate) then people who like optical media will get DVD's upconverted and people who like digital will download. Optical media will still exist, we just might not get a "step forward" like we would with Blu-ray. Most people are more than happy to stay with upconverts, especially on new releases where the source material is pristine.

What Sony, the BDA, WB, and the HD DVD camp all have to realize is that it is actually HDM vs DVD. Right NOW with the BOGO on amazon, the sales show that BD has 50 out of 100 top selling titles, and HD DVD only has 3. Meanwhile DVD has the rest. BD is outselling in this case but it is temporary. However they have to realize that the strongest 2 formats here are clear! If HDM remains split in 2, there is NO WAY we can win against DVD. As the famous person once said:
"If we do not learn to live together as friends, we will die apart as fools." -Martin Luther King, Jr. ![]() BD is obviously the stronger format. If not by much, it is by enough! And with more BD players and movies and support, it is only natural that WB has to choose BD to end the war. A move to HD DVD will destroy HDM to DVD. |

Top 10 for 2007 -
Spiderman 3 Shrek 3 Transformers POTC 3 Harry Potter 5 Bourne Ultimatum Ratatouille Simpsons Wild Hogs Knocked Up Kinda punches a whole in the whole "Just wait until HD-DVD starts releasing popular movies" argument doesn't it? It's not like they didn't make a dent in the top 10 here. *EDIT* Just as a note, these are totals for 2007. Add in 2008 and I am Legend and Alvin and the Chipmunks will both most likely be in the top 10. As an aside, Alvin and the Chipmunks? |

Imagine what being blu would do to Shrek the 3rd and Transfomers. Perhaps they would be numbers one and two, and not two and three. I'm sure they can account for all those lost (would be blu) sales with that 150 million they acquired.

I will never again start buying DVDs because I know it has a way inferior image quality. Even when upscaled and in PAL resolution witch is quite better than NTSC resolution. |

Here is my update...
![]() If these studios do not all support one format regardless of other formats, then the entire HDM will die! DVDs are the real enemy here, not HD DVDs. The problem is that HD DVD is just taking away from the stronger format (much like the 2000 elections debacle). We need them to all lean one way, support one format, and the obvious choice is Blu-ray. The real issue is getting Toshiba to realize this and accept it. If all studios do not unite under one format, they will all fall apart! |

These are the kind of articles that make the general public remain on the sidelines.
We need to start seeing some articles that say: Blu-ray the clear winner or Overwhelming studio support for Blu-ray. |

One more interesting article - this on on Microsoft Supporting Blu-ray:
The Microsoft Dilemma: HD DVD or Blu-Ray? It has been an eventful Friday as far as HD DVD is concerned. First, Warner declared its preference for Blu-ray over HD DVD, and then the HD DVD Promotion Group canceled its CES press conference. While the immediate reaction in the market probably is that it is doomsday for HD DVD, what will be more interesting to see is Microsoft’s stand in the entire episode. The Microsoft angle is interesting for there has been talk lately that the CES keynote address Bill Gates is slated to address has as one of its highlights the introduction to the world of an Xbox 360 version with inbuilt HD DVD drive, the Xbox 360 Ultimate. Microsoft has, of course, already put out a statement to the effect that since the launch of the Xbox 360 HD DVD player, the company has been making it clear there were no plans to have another Xbox 360 version with inbuilt HD DVD. This statement may be out just to kill off rumors about its possible launch of the Xbox 360 Ultimate; at least that is the general feeling around. As events stand now, it seems Microsoft made the wrong choice as far as HD DVD is concerned. On the positive side, Microsoft does not yet have an Xbox 360 with inbuilt HD DVD. However, it does offer an external HD DVD drive for the Xbox. Warner’s announcement of support for Blu-ray would therefore hurt Microsoft probably. However, it is still not curtains for Microsoft. One way out would be to change formats and tag an external drive, but with Blu-ray instead of the external HD DVD drive. Another way out would be probably to come out with the Xbox 360 Ultimate, but add an internal drive with Blu-ray instead of HD DVD. While some may consider the fact of having to admit making the wrong choice embarrassing for Microsoft, it still holds that the company would have to make such a change and swallow the embarrassment if required. It could even wait a while, till it comes out with its next future console and make the changes in that box. One thing is for sure: Microsoft cannot escape making that choice. It could change over to Blu-ray, which would mean literally curtains for HD DVD or it could continue backing HD DVD. For Bill Gates, addressing this issue becomes critical, and the sooner he does it the better. He could do the safe thing and announce in his keynote address his company’s change in strategy and opt for the Blu-ray over HD DVD, or he could take a risk and come out with a strong statement lending support to the embattled HD DVD. Whichever way Mr. Gates chooses to go, one would now definitely look forward to his CES keynote address. http://www.themoneytimes.com/article...d-1015356.html |

... or MS could do what it said it was going to do... not put an HD-DVD or Blu-ray drive in the 360 because it limits their customers choices and drives up the costs. Honestly, if this guy's seeing a Blu-ray drive in the 360, it's time to go to the optometrist for a new prescription.
I'm still betting on them announcing HD Movie Downloads on Xbox Live. |

HDMI is not needed... 1080p isn't worth it... DVD9 is sufficient... Xbox is a gaming machine... Bluray is too expensive... HD DVD is the clear choice and the consumers have voiced it...
bill gates and co. really don't know what they want... adding a bluray player to the 360 would essentially make it a white, bug ridden ps3... adding a hd-dvd player to it would certain spell certain doom for that sku. your call gates... 720p Download != 1080p Bluray |
