Live from Toshiba's CES press conference.
It's a small lead, buts its there. Not even $99 players and 12 free movies could beat Blu-ray. ![]() Source: Toshiba http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/l...ss-conference/ |

Of course they have to exclude and ignore that pesky PS3.

If we want to split hairs, they included the LG combo.
Then again, they don't say if they included the XBOX add-on, either. Prolly not, but still. That pie chart doesn't say much... except this: Hi, we're Toshiba, we are allegedly still supporting HD DVD for the win, see, it's doing just splendidly, kthanxbye, next subject. |

You have to love the route HD-DVD backers are taking right now. They lost Warner and now it shows that BD has outsold HD-DVD stand alones in 2007. Now they are all about media downloads. How do you go from backing a format and buying discs, to getting so mad that HDM is going to die now and they are all about downloading movies? This is truly getting pathetic.

It nearly sounds to good to be true.....
By the end of the November the ratio was around 60:40 with 700.000 HD-DVD sold and 460.000 Blu-ray players. That means that there was sold more 500.000 Blu-ray stand alones in December ![]() |

People, this is huge.
Despite the lower saels, and the 100.00 or so $98 A2/A3 sale .. Do you imagine how many Blu Ray players must have sold in about 3 weeks to erase all that and take the lead ? o.m.g... Warner really didn't need an incentive imho |

If they got any money (Warner and Fox) they did it at the right time, since sales were swinging to to Blu. Our victory is complete! They way Blu sales are going (hardware and software) companies should be paying the BDA for the privilege of going Blu!

It's basically a draw in standalones, even with our side having the higher price. Blu-Ray had an incredible December. It also fails to include the PS3...so it's easy to see just how bad dud was falling behind. They had lost their #1 talking point. |

Not only were software sales a deciding factor in warners decision but also hardware. That chart right there is a serious blow to HD-DVD. They have continued to lose market share in the standalone department for months now. And now they are left with below 50% market share of HD players.
The news keeps getting better and better if you support Blu-ray. ![]() |
