I guess Best Buy is very good at keeping secrets?

It's a shame the complete lack of promotion they give these catalog titles. MGM/Fox/Best Buy obviously didn't even bother sending out screeners for these releases, only Paramount did for The Firm. If those of us who participate on blu-ray forums didn't know this was coming out how is the average blu-ray customer going to know? I guess they're relying on BB customers happening to see it on a shelf and say "gee, I didn't know this came out on Blu-ray, guess I'll get a copy". I don't go to a "Best" Buy unless I have a really good reason. Well, guess I'll have to break down and go to one and get this and The Firm.

OK, so I'm watching the new blu-ray right now and it's a mixed bag. The colors look better than the old DVD, especially during the running of the bulls scene at the start. Exterior shots look pretty good, but might be color timed a bit on the warm side. There is some visible grain, but interior shots seem a little soft. The DTS-HD Master audio sound is very good. I would say the new blu-ray is an improvement over previous DVD versions, but it still is not a knock-your-socks-off transfer. I've had so many versions of City Slickers I can't even count them, including the Deluxe Edition laserdisc and the new blu-ray is the best I've ever seen the movie at home. Included are Audio Commentary by director Ron Underwood, Billy Crystal and Daniel Stern, Deleted Scenes and four featurettes: Back In The Saddle: City Slickers Revisited; Bringing in the Script: Writing City Slickers; A Star is Born: Ode to Norman and The Real City Slickers. If you love the movie as much as I do you can't go wrong for 10 bucks.

well I would certainly hope the bd is the best version released so far for home viewing or we'd have a big problem.
anyone know the rest of the titles that came out it this MGM/warner wave?
I think I read Maverick and Midnight Cowboy were two of them.

Thanks. How is the condition of the print? Is it clean or is it littered with specks? That's what I'm most worried about with these budget catalog titles such as this one.

I only sampled a few scenes, but the only specks I saw were in the first helicopter shot of the ranch in New Mexico when it zooms in on Billy Crystal and his 2 friends. There were some white specks on the left side.

Overall though it was a nice transfer for a 20 year-old flick(yes, it's been THAT long) that only cost 10 bucks at Worst Buy. In fairness though, I've never seen the DVD, so I can't say how it ranks as far as an upgrade.

Anyone know if this will be a double feature with City Slickers II in the future? I liked both of these and would rather get both one disc if possible.

what's with the black bar on the right side of the picture? and why wouldn't they just cropped it to 16:9 if they had to cut off a good portion of the image?

just curious how these things work/happen

I picked this up at my local Target yesterday. Unfortunately the case was cracked at the bottom and it was the last one. It's nothing major and I can live with it. The cashier said the in-store system didn't even report they had the one I was holding in stock! Let alone anymore in the back.

But they told me to ask up front if the would give me 10% off due to the fact it was damaged. Thankfully that worked out well, they gave me 10% off. So with that discount and my Target card discount (plus tax) the total came out to about $4.57 - not a huge steal, but cheaper than Amazon

from someone who's been watching, and still watches, the VHS for years and never got the DVD, this bluray looks phenominal. now if they would only release the even funnier sequel, I would be happy! that and ghostbusters 2. why are the sequels take longers to be released??
