For a guy that everyone don't like Lucas sure get's a lot of attention in this forum

Do you know what I don't like, Avatar and I don't spend my time writting about it because I don't like it!

Now on topic, I really like the choices for these titles, verry sweet.

Just a question on formating. Do you guys want to keep one thread to discuss both films, or split this into two threads with one for "An Unexpected Journey" and one for "There and Back Again"? I'm leaning towards both, but before I change the thread title, I just wanted to get a general consensus.

Looks like you've already made the decision.

I say one thread for now since even the first movie is over a year away.

Maybe add a 2nd one after the first movie comes out as people will then be discussing the first movie after seeing it and their anticipation for the 2nd one coming the next year. But until then, there's really nothing to discuss but the first movie.

Diesel had changed it already, but since I'm always hanging out in here, I'll chance it if you want. Seems like people like the two thread format so far, so we'll see if anyone else wants to respond.

I believe one thread is sufficient and would minimize confusion, since both films are based on one short book.

The only problem with "There and Back Again" is that it kills any sense of drama (similar to "The Return of the King").

Not the most frequent poster in this thread, but agree with dmaul on this.Seems more apropriate to have two threads after the first release, and even more when the second has been released. But really not the biggest issue either in the world or on this forum.

It being based on a childrens book, the title does not give anything away which isn't obvious by the genre.Think the two titles are very good, and apropriate.

I think by now everyone (or very close to it) have read The Hobbit in the last decade after the releases of the previous movies probably not such a big secret

That probably makes most sense, especially since it has been done previously.

i like that they are using there and back again, a nice little homage to the book.

wasn't it originally called there and back again and NOT the hobbit??

If I'm not much mistaken,Bilbo's memoirs in LotR refers to it as There and back again, but it could also very well have been mentioned in the original Hobbit. But nice touch,I agree

It is true that the movies are based on a children's book and the title "There and Back Again" was no doubt Tolkien's idea to comfort kids. Although millions have read it, there are many who will see the movies that haven't (similar to Lord of the Rings), and if I am guessing correctly, Jackson will elevate the action and tension in the films to PG-13 status like LotR if he is to maintain a sense of continuity. Consequently, I imagine that some people who read the book after seeing the movies will be startled by the differences in scope and "feel" between the two.

If anyone as yet to read the book, yes they might have a surprise by how light it is compare to what the movies will be like Will make for interesting posts later on
