Default DTS lossless 5.1 and PCM 5.1

are dts 5.1 lossless audio and PCM the same? While playing the simpsons movie on my Receiver it shows that it is PCM 5.1 when i have the audio selected for DTS lossless 5.1 Thanks

Yes and No. They are not the exact same code, but the accomplish the same thing, giving you lossless audio. You probably have your player set to decode the sound and send it as a pcm to the receiver.

Edit: I do not know for sure, though, that your player can decode the DTS MA, but instead it's just decoding the 1.5mbps core.

hit the "display" button on your BD remote, it should show you what audio is being output.

In short, sounds like your player is outputting as Linear PCM, in which case everything will show as PCM on the receiver.

DTS-HD MA is a losslessly compressed version of PCM. The reason you're not showing DTS-HD MA on your receiver is because Sharp is not capable of bitstreaming that.

sorry this is my dads BD player and reciever its a ps3 and the reciver is a sony STRDG810 and it always says PCM 5.1 no matter what i select in the movies. It will say PCM 5.1 when i pick DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1...so what exactly does that mean. http://www.visions.ca/catalogue/category/Details.aspx?categoryId=143&productId=708&menuId=3 68&parentId1=139&parentId2=''&parentId3=''&menuLev el=2

It means the PS3 is outputting HDMI Audio via Linear PCM.

Settings - BD/DVD Settings - BD / DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) - Linear PCM or Bitstream

okay so all it means is it takes the DTS and the DD and tries to make into a PCM signal? so i am still geting my DD and DTS but the ps3 converts it..

exactly.

so if you want the receiver to decode, set it to Bitstream.

(NOTE: To hear Dolby TrueHD, you must set PS3 to Linear PCM)

i think dts lossless is compressed then uncompressed, for example think of it like a zip file. where as pcm is raw data nothing is touched everything is thrown on the disc, i hope i got that right .
