rio bravo is a great movie. I'm embarrassed to admit that the first time i saw it was when i recently acquired the blu-ray version.

I thought the pq was okay, but i don't think it is in the same league as the searchers.
Well, Amazon has been out of stock for some time. I had this on the dead red format and got rid of the last of them last year and have been looking to replace it on blu-ray but didn't want to pay 20 bucks+ for it, it's a very good movie but a run of the mill Warner release. I just got a sealed copy last week from the $10 or less thread in the trading forum here at blu-ray.com.

Deepdiscount.com has it in their current 25% off sale for $18.34 with free shipping, better than Amazon third party sellers.

I thought I had seen it there in the past MrGBox, thanks for link. Maybe I'll try and talk my wife into swinging by Best Buy so I can pick up The Searchers and City Slickers for $10 each. Glad I didn't pull the trigger on the more expensive RB online. Thanks again

Man that's expensive. If you don't mind the wait you can get it for 4.95 from dvd2blu.com
Just trade in any junky dvd for it. Heck you could go buy a 2 dollar dvd and even with shipping it would be cheaper then 18.00

Also they have other westerns too

Assassination of Jesse James 4.95
The Cowboys 4.95
The Searchers 4.95
The Wild Bunch 4.95

Its a good deal if you don't mind the wait.

Agree 18 bucks is too much, MGM's Horse Soldiers for $11 has better PQ and DTS MA, Rio Bravo only has Dolby Digital. I'd forgotten about DVD2blu, or tried to block it out of my mind - I did it when they first opened it up to any DVD can be traded in, and it was like 2 1/2 months. Surprised to see they have Rio Bravo as I checked WBshop and they didn't have it listed. I might have to take another look at DVD2blu for replacing some of the HD DVDs I got rid of.

ARRGGHHH!!! When you posted a link I thought it said Rio Bravo, not Rio Lobo Hopefully I can eventually track this down. One of my favorites and I love Angie Dickinson better as a brunette and Dean when he's drunk

Who are you responding to and what link are you talking about?

It is listed in Warner's DVD2Blu.com for $4.95 with DVD trade-in, if you have the patience - figure 6 weeks minimum for order processing.

EDIT: When on the hunt for a title at the right price it really pays to search the Trading forum here. Here's a guy who has a copy, new, for $12 shipped -

really wish Warner would redo this blu-ray.
it doesn't look good at all imo, though I thought it looked ok upon release.
I now know better--it just doesn't look like film.
at all.
a large part of the film is set at night, and this bd just doesn't handle those scenes well at all and looks way too digitized.

Yeah, this was one of Warner's "it's good enough" efforts back in 2007 when they were releasing on both formats and made their transfers to fit both a BD25GB & HD DVD30GB. It has black crush in any dark scene and not that good of detail in bright scenes, and only DD audio. It's OOP, so hopefully Warner will see fit for a redo.

I'm talking about the link that MrGBox provided in his post above Duke. Thanks for the link I'll see if they still have it for sale. I'm an old guy, so I've learned patience when it comes to tracking things down is a must, no matter what it is Gotta wonder with these getting pulled from the shelves if WB is planning on doing something new with it?

I'm an old fart too, looking at 60 this Christmas Eve , but patience never has been my strong suit.

They didn't get pulled from shelves, for these catalog releases on blu-ray the studios do a set run of xx thousands of copies. When they're sold out they look at the sales figures and decide if it's worth doing another run and re-stock retailers. Warner seems pretty committed to having it's catalog available on blu-ray, so they are likely evaluating whether to do a re-master of this, or just do another press run of the original. Hopefully it's the former and not the later. And yeah, now I see MrGbox was confusing Rio Lobo with Rio Bravo.

I'll be 45 at the end of next month As long as I shave my head I look pretty good for my age. I think it also helps that I have a toddler. So far I've only had one person make me feel old for not having a kid in high school No luck with that member's so far. Sent him a pm yesterday and posted something in his post today. Hopefully I hear from him. Otherwise I'll just have to keep an eye out on the prices for the BD.

seems like warner is letting some classic titles go OOP--at least for the time being.
Music Man, Willie Wonka, Rio Bravo, etc. are all seemingly OOP now.
really wish I knew what was going on.
certainly hope they are not gone forever, and can't imagine they would be.
why would the case version of Willy wonka be OOP now when it hasn't even been that long ago that the digibook went OOP?
very strange to me.

Barnes & Noble.com is out but many of their stores may have shelf stock for those who interested.
