Latest Ian McKellen blog-

"The cat is out of the bag. The actor is named. The latest recruit to the Jackson troops is the superb Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock Holmes to Bilbo's Watson. Martin Freeman let it slip when he picked up his BAFTA.

Martin told me he was "chuffed" about the prize. So was the entire crew back here in Wellington; and about Benedict. Now, what can he be playing in The Hobbit?

Philippa Boyens showed me a snippet of his screen-test, played in close-up into the camera. It was electrifying, vocally and facially. Yes, what can he be playing?"

It sounds to me like he's implying Smaug, with the "vocally" and "facially" comment.

Being a Sherlock Holmes fan as well, I read this and wondered, what in blazes does that mean? I know they are both in the latest BBC Holmes projects, but that phrase makes no sense to me.

Maybe he's going to play the Goblin King.

Still bummed there's only 2 movies. It will feel inferior next to LOTR, but the names are kind of cool. Almost dont even sound like movie names at all, but that doesnt matter.

I don't see why it would be inferior. They are already stretching 1 book out to 2 movies.

Not sure why it would feel inferior. The way PJ directs, these films are going to feel huge and emcompassing. That is one of the reasons the LOTR movies worked so well.

It's based on a children book of 280 pages, how many movies do you want them to do out of that exactly? It's already pretty good they are making two of them. I fail to see how it feel's inferior? Oh well! Everyone is different.

I'm glad I'm not the only one mystified by that quote.

I read this article about Orlando Bloom coming back

http://www.thehobbitblog.com/?p=2403

I am really curios how Petter Jackson is going to incorporate Legalos into the movies, because he was not in The Hobbit.

I think this has been discussed already, but Legolas was the son of Thranduil, who was the Elvenking in Northern Mirkwood. Apparently, PJ's script has Bilbo and the dwarves going through Mirkwood.

Grand Bob, is it not true that both Thranduil and Legolas were Sindar Elves and not Silvan elves? I think that Celeborn and Galadriel were also Sindarin elves, yet they also ruled over Silvan elves.

Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" pushed one week to NOT compete with Hobbit release

In other words, expect another "Avatar" situation where the only movie that sells tickets will be The Hobbit.

That's great news!Even if the movie is half as good as the book,it'll be stellar

PS:Talking about Life of Pi.

Could Gimli be the next to join the cast. I wonder how they are going to do all the cameos. Maybe like the Dul Guldur scenes they will add parts that were in the appendicies that fall in The Hobbit timeline.
