It's just a blast of a film and that's why I watch superhero movies, to have fun. Being a comic book fan, who is very familiar with Green Lantern as a character, I thought this film delivered and went the "whole 9" and didn't puss out when things got too campy. 5 out of 5, great comic book movie.
I seriously hate when people bring this stupid argument up. And it's Kane btw.

I didn't really care btw, the movie's overrated. Thanks for the spell check. Any other critique's of my personal opinion of GL or are you done? Seriously, if it grinds your balls so bad that someone can like this movie you got some real problems. Get over them and move on.

So what I'm gathering from all this is that Green Lantern, while far from being really good, isn't quite as horrible as one would expect based on the practically unanimous panning it got from reviewers (as far as I know, Roger Ebert and Harry Knowles are the only ones who liked it, though still admit it is flawed). Perhaps everyone's expectations bottomed out the point that anything better than "Batman and Robin caliber" was a welcome surprise?

Well, that earns a rental for me. The people that seem to like it say it's dumb and fun, but in my book, that doesn't cut it anymore for movies like this. I want to see a good story and character development-- being dumb and fun is a disservice to these characters, and we've seen numerous times now that a comic-book superhero film can be better than that.

I don't want to piss all over this movie or anything since I haven't seen it, but I'm not seeing any good reason to fork over money to see this at the theater or support the film. Oh well, still looking forward to Captain America.

I kinda have to agree, it's a bit stupid to say I wasn't expecting what some consider the best film ever made. If you have any inkling as to any film, you shouldn't go into any film thinking it's the greatest film ever. Putting it in front of a review just says "I like films that are second rate". And saying Citzen Kane is overrated up there basically ruins any point of that sentence, at least think before you pour out your pointless information to ruin any sort of point you where making

You know this shit is crazy! All I was doing was giving my opinion. It doesn't make it your opinion. Really, giving my opinion in a review thread for the film isn't pointless information. Holy crap, is this not the Green Lantern review thread anymore? While were at it...who the hell are you? Oh, that's right, another forum member who's opinion holds no more weight than any one else's. Make your opinions and let me make mine...for F*cks Sake!!!

Ok, just answer me this one little question...Where does Citizen Kane link into Green Lantern?

I get that you like the film, I glad you like the film, I want to watch it. But I just think that the argument for Citizen Kane is a daft way to say I had low expectations and this film is just entertaining.

Honestly, you're right. I don't know man, sorry I snapped. It just seemed like I couldn't have my opinion or something. From my understanding, Citizen Kane is held up as a cinema masterpiece, even though I think it is way overrated. Seems to me that some here are expecting nothing short of masterpiece status in these comic book movies. The Dark Knight is an exception as it really elevated comic book material to an critically acclaimed level. I don't expect this from every comic book film I go to see. It was an anomaly to say the least, IMO. When I went to see TDK I didn't leave the theater in a fun mood but I was wowed. On the whole, GL was, in my opinion, a fun movie and not to be taken seriously. I had no preconceived notions going in except to be entertained. Nothing in any of the promotional material I saw made me believe this was going to be on some higher intellectual or epic level. So as I read through the thread it seems some people were expecting much more from this than they should have, IMO.

It's ok man, some of the stuff I said was a bit uncalled for, all I really was expecting was a fun throw back to some of the more colourful fun loving superhero films, so hopefully I won't be disappointed

I would like it if Green Lantern could be like Ironman and DC could use this to launch a potential Justice League film. I probably want too much though.

Also, there was no reason for that random best friend character to exist.

3.5/5
The reason the random best friend character exists is just for the same reason Darcy in Thor exists, to lighten the mood. His name is Tom by the way, and in the comics he is a good friend of Hal's.

4/5 for me. As an origin story it's what you would expect and maybe a little more. If I have one complaint about this movie it's that the
[Show spoiler]final fight against parallax went by way to quick.

I thought DC were already planning on doing a Justice League film in 2013 but with none of the actors from the current films.

Exactly my thoughts with
[Show spoiler]Sinestro being the villan
in the second it should be alot more serious of a movie. What people are bound to forget on these boards, around the internet, in newspapers, and in the theaters themselves is that this was an origin movie nothing more nothing less and it sets the stage for the second in the series.

Was Batman Begins a highly praised movie yes but only because it reinvigorated Batman while on the other hand if there had been no batman movies before it it would be looked upon as what it really was and that is a decent origin story that paved the way for a great sequel. Hopefully Green Lantern can do the same.

I'm going to see this tonight. I got four free tickets when I picked up the Batmans on Blu so even if I don't care for it it was still free.

Wow, GL pulled in $21,605,000 on Fri...it will probably pull in somewhere between $45,000,000 - $55,000,000 for the weekend...suprised i guess.

Now that I don't quite agree with. Batman Begins was a really well-made film in it's own right-- I don't think people liked it just because it re-invigorated the character. I mean, it DID do that of course, but that was because the film was so great. I used to think the Burton films were top-of-the-line until I saw that one.

But I still get your point about Green Lantern. Even if this film is so-so, if it still does decent box office (which apparently it is), they can still save it by doing a sequel that really hits it out of the park-- Martin Campbell already stated he won't be returning, so that's already a great first step (and that guy is a great director most of the time, but obviously wasn't right for this project).

I quite enjoyed The Green Lantern. While it was a little lacking in the script/plot department, it was absolutely gorgeous and the 3D was very close to Avatar quality. 4 stars.

No doubt! I actually want to see a spin-off movie solely about Sinestro more than I want to see another GL flick about Hal. Mark Strong was AWESOME (as he is in pretty much everything I've seen him in).

You're not missing much, as far as I'm concerned. I loved the movie (rated it 5/5 in this poll) even with its flaws. I could overlook the mediocre directing, the lackluster score and Blake Lively's performance.
[Show spoiler]But I can't overlook the disservice they did to the Sinestro storyline by having him put the yellow ring on with no build up. It came out of nowhere and I hated it.
For me, as soon as the credits roll, the movie's over.

Just some thoughts . . .

I was prepared for the whole movie to be filled with "I know, right!?!" moments, but luckily that wasn't the case. I thought Reynolds' humor was used well for the most part, even though in some parts it did feel like they tried to cram in more jokes/humor than were needed. For the most part though, I was afraid that this would just be Ryan Reynolds playing himself, but I felt that most of the humor was wry and sarcastic, which is true to the character.

The mask looks horrible, and I'm glad
[Show spoiler]Carol figured out it was Hal pretty much right off the bat, and I appreciated the humor in that scene, because the mask is ridiculous.
Honestly, Clark Kent's glasses work better as a disguise.

I could've done without seeing Hector Hammond
[Show spoiler]screaming like a woman
what seemed like 30 times.

The only thing that stood out to me as just plain bad was the score. In the scene where Jordan and Tomar-re are flying through Oa, I felt like I should've been watching African Cats or something else with a bunch of animals running through the plains. It all felt very bland and uninspiring, and in some parts even cringe-worthy. I was surprised to see that it was James Newton-Howard and not some no-name composer.

The stinger at the end felt really out of place. Being familiar with the character, it makes sense, but in the context of the movie it doesn't at all.
[Show spoiler]Sinestro's future as a rogue is never even hinted at during the film until the stinger.
When we walked out of the theater my friend, who is unfamiliar with the comics, was like soooo . . .
[Show spoiler]is he supposed to be a bad guy now?
I thought there would be a lot more
[Show spoiler]conflict between Sinestro, Jordan, and the Guardians to at least hint at Sinestro's turn, but there wasn't any at all.

I wish they would've saved
[Show spoiler]Parallax
for a later film, although since he's been retconned into the mythos, I guess that would be kind of hard. I wish that conflict had been more epic in scale, since that character was responsible for one of the major events in DC history
[Show spoiler]Zero Hour
, and in this he's easily beaten.

Overall, I liked the movie. Aside from the mask, I was really pleased with how the suits looked, surprisingly. Most of the effects were really good, and I love the shot of Hal in front of the sun (in the trailers). A lot of characters are underused, and I think the movie could've been 20-25 minutes longer to really flesh some stuff out, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and I'll be buying it on Blu-ray day one, and I'll be getting the Hot Toys Hal when it comes out

Oddly enough, the theater I usually go to, and where I saw it, wasn't even showing it in 3D. Not that I was bummed, I was happy to see a good selection of showtimes for 2D for once. The theater was packed at a 7:45 showing, so hopefully this will do well and we'll get a sequel and other DC movies in the future. I think they still have some ground to make up in order to catch up to the quality of Marvel's films, but I liked GL.
