Keep us informed, please. Since this is not a Warner release it may shed some light on the whole situation.

+100000000000

Horrible decision on such a great part of the film.

It was sent via UPS Ground, so I'm pretty sure that I'll have it before Tuesday. But yes, I will be seeing RotK before checking out the Blu-ray as we already have advance tickets for it. Gonna be a long night, but certainly well worth it!

Tell me about it. My step dad and I watched a trailer for the rotk before it wa released theatrically. And there was a bit of this scene where gandalf fights back but that's not in either of these versions and now we can't find that trailer.

To be fair, I'm not noticing the green tint so much when I view these screenshots with software that allows a fullscreen display (no browser borders). That doesn't mean it isn't there, or that it is correct. It just means that it isn't as prominent appearing without all these bright borders that these websites have.

What bothers me is the odd appearance of all of the overblown skies/highlights (overexposed areas). They have a "dark" quality to them, like the gamma is somehow messed up. You probably wouldn't notice this on a poor contrast monitor or a very bright projector (which by their nature also wash out colors when cranked)

Gives me a wild theory. (Disclaimer: look up the word "theory" in a dictionary.)

Is FOTR:EE supposed to have a green push in the new grading, just that it appears more green than intended because the brightness isn't set correctly? If you look at comparisons of the other two movies (which actually were regraded as well), you'll notice that TTT:EE leans blue (check the highlights) and the movie is brighter looking than FOTR:EE overall. I haven't seen any direct comparisons of the third, but I have the sneaking suspision that ROTK:EE leans red (and the reddish highlights in the shots provided suggest this to be true). Green. Blue. Red. Sound familiar? Remember those faux leather bound (and some paperback) sets of the books that were going around for years before these movies were made? FOTR was green. TTT was blue. ROTK was red.
i.e. http://starvingwritersbooks.com/book...LOTRBOXSET.jpg

I remember the controversy when the EE DVD sets came out and TTT and ROTK had their colors switched for marketing purposes. Could it be possible that Jackson et al intentionally injected these (original) colors into each movie to reflect the look of those books? I can't say it's beyond the possibility of having intentional artistic merit. I've used tinted pallets to reflect moods before(blue/gray for sadness, red/orange for anger, etc.), never an entire movie as in this case, but it sort of makes sense when you think of it this way.

Just a theory.

I didn't see any noticable tint in any TTT ot ROTK screenshots - in particular not in the movie title.

An interesting theory but I don't think it holds true. FOTR has a
constant green tint throughout the whole movie. TTT and ROTK does
not have a constant tint but many scenes have been carefully graded
to set a certain mood or tone.

I definitely would have been willing to get rid of some of the pointless/fun stuff for the actual finale (Shire and the ruffnecks). But what can you do.

That scene with Aragorn does indeed ruin a bit of surprise. But most people watch the TE first anyway.

tbh, I thought the Army of the Dead was the worst part of the films. They looked cheesy and killed their foes a bit too easily.

Here is question for everyone:

Isn't it possible that Ken Brown's set is calibrated in a way that might bring out the greens more than how Bill Hunt's or RH's sets?

Don't forget Ralph Potts at AVS. He sees the green tint too.

That would be a cool tag team match.

Ken Brown & Ralph Potts vs Bill Hunt & Robert Harris.

I'd pay to see that before I pay for the EE of LOTR's.

If something like this happens then it is not calibrated.

Guys,

I know the "green FOTR" issue is important, and the debate will go on for a while (or forever :-). But...

is this the right thread for pricing on the blu-ray? Any word yet on how to get it cheaper (now) than $83 at amazon?

I do know that I have TV settings that don't agree with someone like my dad.

I typically "calibrate" my TV based on settings provided on AVS forum and usually I like what they come up with but I will often make minor tweaks to the settings to my liking.

This is an appropriate thread for that question, but it'll probably get buried without a real response...

Outside of 40-50% off coupons for BN.com and Borders.com Amazon appears to have the lowest price currently. However until the ads for the various B&M stores get posted it's all up in the air really.

Everybody see's the green tint. That has NEVER been the debate. The debate has been whether the accurately screenshots represent how these scenes look in motion. Ken Brown has gone on record saying they do, but BH and RH have gone on record in saying that its there but hardly intrusive.

One thing that they ALL agree on is that they are very much watchable and I take that as the overall important message.
