Crystal Skull was awful. Im very glad I didnt bother seeing that in theaters, but it bothers me that it shares the same name with 3 other classic movies. I wish they would have just left it alone instead of tainting it with some piece of junk.

Troof. Terrible story aside, and if you don't like a raft plunging how do you feel about that Frigidaire?, my biggest beef with the film is that it appeared to be shot entirely on a soundstage, even the motorcycle chase through the monkeys or whatever. Location shooting made the early films, CGI helped to destroy this one, which is the Blues Brothers 2000 of Spielberg films and once seen cannot be unseen.

Great news. I hope we get a new edition of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as well.
I don't care as much for the 2nd or 3rd film. But those other two films are just fantastic. Raiders Of The Lost Ark - 10/10 Temple Of Doom - 5/10 - (10/10 if you stop it once they board the plane after Club Obi-Wan) The Last Crusade - 7/10 Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - 10/10 Last edited by Beast; 06-22-2011 at 07:52 PM. |

But I think I read the 2012 release was to coincide with Paramount's 100th anniversary next year. I just got a chuckle picturing Indy saying, "Nice try, Lao Che," and then the Indy theme swells as the picture fades to black. It could win an Oscar for Best Short Subject. There were a precious few. I remember Robocop (not widescreen) being the first (and one of the only) pre-recorded S-VHS titles. I don't remember Indiana Jones being one of them but Paramount used to always be game for a new video format. They put out plenty of CD-Videos in the US (mostly as a tie-in to the Philips CD-I) and even sold a collection of pre-recorded Sony 8 tapes for a failed line of portable players.

You guys should try and watch Kingdom again. It really fits into the series, I really feel like watching an Indy movie. It's a mix of Doom and Crusade, that's how I feel not sure about others. And there are actually more practical effects than CG, the nuclear blast was a pyrotechnic using one of the biggest model set ever built. And mostly on location too, the scene outside the warehouse looks like it was shot on a studio stage but it's not.
Again my ratings: Raiders: 10/10 Doom: 8/10 Crusade: 8/10 Kingdom: 8/10 |

Raiders 10/10
Temple 8/10 Crusade 9/10 Skull 4/10 I remember watching KOTCS at the theater and I actually looked at my watch wondering when it was going to end. I was that disappointed in it. I remember turning to my g/f and whispering that "I can't believe I'm looking at my watch in an Indiana Jones film". I've watched the film once more on BD and as much as I wanted my opinion to change, it didn't. I'm surprised that there are some in this thread wondering if KOTCS will be included in the set or not. Of course it will. Like the film or not, and I don't, it is officially a part of the series. I can't wait for the release of this set on Blu-ray. I have enough faith in Spielberg to make sure the A/V presentation is top notch. Unlike the upcoming Star Wars set, I hope they take advantage of the capacity of BD and include all previous extras and some great new features. |
