The idea is actually to see the world and the story of the Lone Ranger through the eyes of Tonto. So it'll definitely be interesting to say the least.

Not only that, seeing the actors they're considering for Lone Ranger it's going to be one of those alpha male type of actors, so it's going to have an actor that rivals Depp in star power, ie Brad Pitt or George Clooney. I honestly think Brad Pitt and Depp pairing would be off the hook or even Jon Hamm who's just plain out awesome.

Armie Hammer to Play the Lone Ranger?

When Johnny Depp finishes shooting Tim Burton's Dark Shadows (which commences production next month in England), it's expected that he will be turning his attention to the big screen version of The Lone Ranger, in which he will play Tonto. Deadline is reporting that Armie Hammer could be playing the masked man.
Hammer, who starred in The Social Network and was one of the cast members for George Miller's aborted Justice League: Mortal, is reportedly having early talks about the part. The film will be directed by Gore Verbinski (who had previously collaborated with Depp on the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films as well as Rango) from a script by Justin Haythe. Jerry Bruckheimer will serve as producer.

I like Hammer, he's a great actor. He was awesome in The Social Network. I'll take him as the Ranger. He'd fit it. I'm still sad we never got to see him as Batman, but this is the next best thing.

Have to admit I have never seen The Lone Ranger but with the cast and Gore directing it has made this a must see for me.

Can't really comment on his acting as I haven't seen the Social Network yet but haven't heard anything bad about him so that's good and you gave him a positive so hopefully he signs on to this.

Dude, watch The Social Network! It was my favorite movie that came out last year! All the acting was A+, great cinematography, great music, and incredible direction. I love David Fincher, man does no wrong in my book. And that includes Alien 3: The Workprint Cut. But really, Armie Hammer was awesome in it, so I'm glad to see he might be getting a leading role. It makes up for him losing Batman like I said earlier.

Armie Hammer to play 'Lone Ranger'

Armie Hammer has apparently signed up to the lead role in Disney's upcoming version of The Lone Ranger.

The Social Network star will be joining Johnny Depp following months of speculation over the part, Variety reports.

Hammer was first linked with the project last month when he was rumored to be in talks for the part. Ryan Gosling had also been linked with the role.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer had previously hinted that a fresh face was needed for the lead, adding that he wanted to cast "somebody who can do the humor and somebody who's attractive and charismatic".

Co-star Johnny Depp has said the new film will address the relationship between his character Tonto and the Lone Ranger.

Since Hammer played the Winklevoss twins, he has committed to Tarsem Singh's Snow White, psychological thriller 2:22 and J.Edgar.

The actor recently lost the lead role to Henry Cavill in the planned Superman reboot.

Good choice I think and can't wait to see this with both Depp and Armie.

'Lone Ranger' receives a release date

Disney has revealed that The Lone Ranger is to begin production later this year.

The long-planned movie stars Social Network actor Armie Hammer in the titular role and Johnny Depp as his companion Tonto.

Disney has now finally granted the movie a release date. The Lone Ranger is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 21, 2012.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star affirmed in early May that his character will not be a sidekick, stating that he hopes to reinvent the relationship between the two protagonists.

The Lone Ranger was a television series starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels that ran between 1949 and 1957.

Director Gore Verbinski said in February that the film will be told from Tonto's point of view, claiming that he finds the idea of an unreliable narrator such as the character of Tonto to be fascinating.

The Lone Ranger is Verbinski and Depp's fifth joint collaboration.

Thought it was more a Summer movie but I think it can do really well in December and can't think of other Winter 2012 movies at the moment.

Yeah I think the holiday season will be a better fit for the movie then Summer but never considered it before they announced it.

Tom Wilkinson in Talks

Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) is in talks to join Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Per Variety, the two-time Oscar nominee would take on the “prominent” role of a railroad tycoon. If the deal goes through, Wilkinson would join a cast that already includes Armie Hammer in the title slot and Johnny Depp as his sidekick, Tonto. Gore Verbinski (Rango) is directing the pic which is scheduled to begin shooting after Depp finishes Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows adaptation and Hammer wraps Tarsem Singh’s (Immortals) untitled Snow White pic alongside Julia Roberts.

The Lone Ranger script comes courtesy of Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). In addition to his potential role in Lone Ranger, the usually excellent Wilkinson can next be seen alongside Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington in director John Madden’s (Shakespeare in Love) drama/thriller The Debt which is due out on August 31st. The thesp also signed on to join Samuel L. Jackson in the indie thriller The Samaritan back in April.
