It may well be quantifably there, but according to RAH it doesn't have a detrimental effect on the image. People aren't infallible, but if RAH says that's the case, then I believe him. His professional record speaks for itself. The green tint and a great picture do not appear to be mutually exclusive.

Well, I don't think it's a hoax (although I don't 100% rule it out)...but I'm scratching my head as well - because common sense would have you think that a green tint on a movie will result in a lousy image. But clearly that's not the case.

Wow, this thread has reached 300 pages... I wonder how many pages are about the green tint vs. how many pages are about whether each film should be one or two discs

To repeat something I said hundreds of pages ago in this thread: one might think that wearing orange-tinted snowboard goggles would horribly obnoxious. But in fact, you don't notice anything amiss after a very short time, and snow looks very much white. After you take them off, it's painfully blue/green for a few moments. The brain's capacity to adjust to these things is quite remarkable.

This is worth reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_constancy

There seems to be a spot of deeper shade of green on the right side of the frame that makes part of the grass seem darker than the rest and gradually moves away from the grass as the camera pans up.

Any body else see that?
I've watched it 3 times now on my 24" iMac.. what second or is the just a sarcastic post to mimic the 400% zoom pics from the science website to detect 1 pixel differences to justify a non-purchase of a blu-ray

Anyone get shipping confirmations from barnes and noble after using the 50% off coupon. There's too much green discussion to sort through.

no, no sarcasm. I promise. Honestly, at this point I could just be over analyzing things. I should be getting mine in the mail tomorrow - I'm just going to cool off and enjoy the set when I get it.

Sure, but if the net effect is the same, then what's the problem? I come back to the point that if a professional film restorer thinks it looks good, then why the need to have an exchange program to have discs without the tint?

Enjoy the set? WTF is wrong with you

I was serious though, I didn't see it, probably a good thing. Maybe once you find it, you can't unfind

I spoke too soon. I won't be enjoying this tomorrow after all. UPS sent my package to wrong damn facility and it's delayed until Wednesday now.

Hi, Larkitect,

Edit: sorry just read your PM,

You mean it is a separate box? the LOTR set one box, that figurines another box?

you're typing like you're coming down with something. maybe you shouldn't go in to work/school tomorrow.

I hate to add more negativity to this thread, but those figurines look ghastly.

i'll tell you the truth, they do suffer from too much detail because of their small size. especially the Black Rider where the horse is portrayed mid-gallop, the rider's cape is large and flowing and he has one hand on the reigns and is holding a sword in the other.

i think of the six, Gollum is the most suited for this level of detail. like the movies, as he crouches you can see the raised vertebrae looking like they could soon poke through the thin veil of skin on his back.

they've even got the hair on Frodo's feet! i guess it's a blessing and a curse. too little detail and they look bland, too much and they verge on being a hot mess.

but all in all i don't regret the purchase and they do look nice on the shelf with a little distance.

To Connecticut from Florida?

...and, yes, I've been ridiculously wound up this evening. I'm normally rather laid back. Apologies.

this is not my experience at all from watching the fellowship on saturday..

snow is white.. maybe hints of blue in some places,
grey is grey
white is white.
sky is blue..

the overall tone of middle earth is 'golden' and warm.. this is on a panasonic 42VT30 plasma in THX mode..

shadow detail is immense.. as is actual fine detail... i noticed things i havent seen before in this film..

Uk release..

Do not attempt to adjust the picture, we are controlling transmission.......

On a side note, from what I've seen, the new dark, color timing pretty much destroys shadow detail. Way to go!

At some point, do we get to believe 2+2=5?

I'm certain that if this set came with 400 hours of features and had 5 versions of the films with soundtracks and actual props from the movie and real shooting scripts and life size sculptures of the actors and a copy of every edition of the books ever made and a copy of the hobbit before its released along with a personal meeting with Peter Jackson where he calls you the best fan in the world and proceeds to grant you all his money because you bought the set. You'd still be unhappy because its slightly more cyan teal green whatever the heck you've all decided on.
