Sorry, I know that bit of information got lost in the mix. Reports that the Digital Copy presents the DVD's color timing or are produced from the old DVD master are incorrect ![]() Last edited by Ken Brown; 06-28-2011 at 08:24 PM. |

Glad to see that the TheOneRing.net review makes mention of the tint.
By the way, as regards DNR... I haven't got the TEs, but I can see that it's been pretty conclusively proven that the DNR issues have largely been sorted on the EE, while TTT and ROTK are apparently improved but do also retain a little DNR. Is it noticeable? |

I have read that there is still a lot of unused footage out there from the films themselves and I would like to get a chance to see that. |

Thats not what I'm saying, Its better to read reviews and Judge for yourself, then to just go by screenshots. I am sure Ken's shots are accurate, but as he said its different in motion then just a looking at a screenshot.

Indeed, the screenshots are accurate. The tint just isn't as noticeable in the fabric of the film as it is in screenshots or side-by-side comparisons where a point of reference is provided that showcases the various differences.
It's also worth noting that no one has produced a properly captured screenshot that looks different from those that have been cropping up for weeks. If all the screenshots to date were inaccurate, someone would be posting accurate shots. No one has. The debate shouldn't be whether the screenshots are accurate. It's whether you can discern the various color changes and tint as easily when the film is in motion in a proper viewing environment. |

I made this very point after seeing the new master at the theater. Todd was all "I'd notice!" I seriously doubt he would. The problem is that some people can't separate what they're seeing and the screenshots when watching it.

Oh for the love of all that is good and opposed to Sauron ... was the tree missing in the theatrical version or the EE DVDs? Last edited by Deciazulado; 06-28-2011 at 09:45 PM. Reason: post merge |

As far as I can tell, it doesn't appear as if any additional DNR has been applied to any of the transfers by the studio. The theatrical and extended versions of TTT and ROTK look very similar, but small improvements verify Jackson's claim that they were remastered as well and that a small amount of DNR was indeed applied to the theatrical cut Blu-ray releases of TTT and ROTK. Hope that helps clarify! |

No problem. If you enjoy the colors on the Blu-ray edition of FOTR, you'll enjoy the colors on its accompanying Digital Copy. If you loathe the colors on the BD, you'll loathe them on the DC. Again, the BD and DC feature the same new color grade and tint. Proceed accordingly

No. But my argument against that idiotic hyperbole by the reviewer stands. The new coloring reflects reality far more than that bland looking crap from the DVD, which there should be no comparisons anyway. When was the last time you saw a Blu-ray that matched the coloring of the DVD, even before this "teal and orange" stuff came about? |

I just talked to one of my friends, and he will be bringing his set over in about two hours so I can check it out.
![]() He told me "Oh my God, it's absolutely beautiful!". I asked about some specific scenes, and he said " I was talking about the box, I haven't even opened it yet". ![]() |

Unfortunately, most people don't realize just how poor humans are at perceiving absolute color (and how utterly unreliable their senses are in general, something that drives me bats**t talking with audiophiles), and that A/B comparisons of color differences are misleading regarding how it will actually look during normal viewing. This statement applies to both those screaming about how the movie is ruined, and those not seeing any green tint. Of course, the question of whether it's a defect that should be corrected, and whether it's a major issue in regular viewing are two different things. Last edited by 42041; 06-28-2011 at 08:58 PM. |
