Default Help! Please? :o

Alright. Here I am... sitting in my basement with my new onkyo TX-SR605 (http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...=Receiver&p=i). Woo hoo! 7.1. Been dieing for this baby.

Alright. So ive hooked up all my speakers to the right places. All is fine - hooked up the wii through stereo sound just to test them all. they worked.

Now, everything is set up perfect, right? K, so lets plug in the PS3 through HDMI shall we?

I plug it in, and reach down to the receiver hoping for an "HDMI 1" button.
Oh, of coarse... that would be too easy, right?

The instructions told me to assign a slot to the HDMI using my remote. so, after about 2 hours of cleaning the basement looking for the remote (Im terrible for losing remotes. this'll prob be gone in a couple days... or... minutes. )

So there is is. Found my remote behind my TV. Yay! I guess i should read the instructions some more before jumping into everything and screwing it up like i usually do.

Well heres what the directions told me -

"If you've connected your TV to the AV receiver/AV amplifier with an HDMI cable, you can set the AV receiver/AV amplifier so that composite video, S-Video, and componant video sources are upconverted* and output by HDMI OUT. You can set this for each imput selector by selecting the "_ _ _" option."

hmmm. im liking the sound of that. Upscaled NES? Awsome...

So I get my good old HDMI - DVI cable out and plug it into the Receiver, and into the TV.
Woo Hoo. Now to plug the PS3 into the HDMI IN, right? yup! Did it. i got me some nice 7.1 PCM audio. Awsome. except... heres the issue.

No picture! Great! I love me some black screens.

so, here we are... ive got my HDMI - DVI cable plugged into HDMI OUT on the receiver and INPUT 1 on the TV. Ive got the PS3 set to HDMI and plugged into "HDMI 1" on the receiver. Ive got the receiver set for HDMI 1 to show me, and make me hear the PS3.

All im getting is audio. is there some sort of special setup for this thing to output through HDMI or somthing?

Any help would be EXTREMELY useful.

Thanks everyone!

Probably an hdcp issue related to the hdmi to dvi cable.

Reset the PS3 by holding down the on button until you hear a second beep. See if you've got video and report back.

This may sound dumb, but did you change the Input on the TV itself...I know you said you plugged it in, but did you actually switch the TV to the "DVI 1" input?

It's not dumb, it's genius. Most likely causes in (more or less) descending order:
1) PS3 wasn't set to HDMI output and requires reset
2) TV not set to DVI 1 input
3) Some obscure receiver setting
4) HDCP handshake issues with the TV model

Did that. Still no picture... Plus, that just sets it to 480i and asks me if i wanna use HDMI. which then, after pushing right to select "Yes" (Ive memorized that one) - the screen just remains black. also, i would have to be on HDMI or elese i wouldnt be getting PCM.

im wondering if...

(in the past)...the ps3 use to "automatically" select the optimum resolution,1080p, if you let it...perhaps its selected and is why you cannot see it? ...I would guess they fixed this by now, it was a problem about a year ago...?

When I use Automatic on my 1080i set, it correctly finds that resolution (as well as 720p and 480p) and checks the right boxes. Nevertheless, we now know he's got an image. Now, it's all about finding out why he can't move from the setup image to the next step.

k, that diddnt work. but for now, ive set the video output through componant cables going directly into the TV, and the Audio going through HDMI into the receiver. Not really the setup i wanted since now i cant upscale PS3 games, but you know. Whatever.

Wish the PS3 had 2 HDMI outs like it was originally supposed to have... but what can you do!?

This should be fine. For now...

Nope. You've gotta set it up custom now. which is nice.

Though it IS working fine right now. ive got 1080i on the TV, ive got PCM on the receiver - If anyone who knows how to fix this could possibly help out, it'd be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

nonononono. i had no image. i had just memorized to push "Left" then push "X", then after it beeps push "Left" then push "X" again in order to output through HDMI. I bring my PS3 over to peoples houses all the time, ive done it a few times.
