You can do 1080p over DVI-->HDMI as long as both components support HDCP and the DVI cord/adapters do too. Which is most of them, so most are good.

Correct.

My Sony KV-34XBR800 has a DVI connection that is HDCP compliant, but will not produce a picture via HDMI from the PS3 to DVI.....long story...tried everything....so I use the Component output from the PS3.....no worries....the TV is 1080i and the picture is hi-def and fantastic.

My Directv HR20 works fine to my TV via HDMI to DVI.....go figure.
