Consoles have a life expectancy of about fives years, that puts the Next Box about 3 years away. I can see the next system having a large HD and offering customers the option of downloading the games over live or going to the store and buying a copy on disk, eventually winging customers off disk media. But this does raise the question of what disk drive would MS go with? DVD has become to small, HD DVD for games only...Maybe. Blu-Ray, possibly? But again Gates says "The future is not HD Disk its downloads", well see. |

How about this.
M$ creates the Xbox Next with an internal hard drive like that of the PS3. User expandable/upgradeable, with no internal disk drive. This new system is offered in two flavors, Downloads only or for $100.0 more with an external disk drive for those that don't want to be bound to Xbox live. |

I'm all for MS putting a BD drive on 360 ASAP because that's as clear of an indicator of where things are at as you'll ever see. I hope they announce plans for it post haste. That's another huge domino effect in favor of BD.
The PS3 has a much longer shelf like than a "typical console." The 360 does not. The "typical life cycle" of a game console is roughly, on average, around 5 years give or take. Make no mistake: The next Xbox game system has probably been in development for a while now and MS is just going to wait a little while before they announce their new system down the road with what will be the HD optical media standard: Blu-Ray. |

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=10285 No denying the obvious ramifications. Right now, HD-DVD zealots should be directing some of that anti Sony and anti BD hate and shifting a little bit of it towards the people that deceivd them and misled them in the first place: Toshiba and MS. |
