Nobody talked about that scene... it´s fine the way it is!

The Imperial March is the anti-thesis to those very themes and belongs in the Empire Strikes Back which has overtones of hoplessness and oppression.
Yet, not every scene and every moment is about "Hope". You might have noticed that there is a love theme in "Empire strikes back" for example. They are not playing the "Imperial March" for two hours because the title is about the Empire. You also might have noticed that Darth Vader appears in some scenes in "A new Hope"...

One need only watch Attack of the Clones to hear why this is a bad idea. A large portion of it is a hatchet job of music lifted directly from previous films edited together to pass as a score. If you are going to do it, do it right, or don't do it all. Leave the music up to the professionals is my motto.
Of course, do it correctly or don´t do it at all.

I'm not married to the idea - it's just something that could be done to connect certain themes and ideas...

Of course, it was just about what could possibly be changed or enhanced in the upcoming Blu-Ray editions since it will certainly be something.

Okay, we are talking about two different things. Yes, the Star Wars has the title A New Hope. It is given that title because it is about just that. Hope. It has THEMES (not musical, but overall THEMES and in film we are referring to tone). The overal theme of the first Star Wars was about hope and rebellion, was it not? The sequel was not about those things. It had a very different tone/theme in which musical queues like the Imperial March are indeed quite fitting. Not so much with the first Star Wars film.

I guess there is no way I can explain to you what I´m talking about. Nevermind, it´s not that important.

Sorry.
I couldn't agree more with this statement.

Critics are for people with no dimension...no self control and no decision making skills. They are for the UNDECIDED.

I never listen to critics because I know what I like. It's simple really.

These days movies die out in 2 weeks. they fizzle and go away. I wanted to see THOR and found out only one movie theater is playing it on a 100 miles radius.

Star Wars ran for more than 6 months, release after re-release...and a year later people were still shocked over it.

No, the best critics are journalists and essayists. A proper review's intention isn;t to tell you good or bad... its to analyze the strengths and weaknesses and let YOU decide. Another reason why Ebert always hated the simple thumbs up/down thing, because it generalizes a review into black and white. Cahiers du Cinema in its inception wasn't about good or bad, but analysis and study.

And, besides, I'm pretty sure you don't love EVERY film you think you will. Everyone is let down now and then.

Too bad that it didn't do anything in 2 movies, got beaten by a few A-wings and then was destroyed in the most outdated SFX shot of the entire saga..

Different times in 1977. There was no home video, cable (of any significance), on demand, or torrents. If a film made its way to television, it was after a very long wait. If you really wanted to see a film, there was only one place to see it.

Well. The Executor SSD was there for dramatic effect at least, larger than any other in the Imperial Fleet, save for the Expanded Universe with the later Star Dreadnoughts/SSDs. It had the regular Star Destroyers to deal with the Rebel scum.

Just for the hell of it last night my bro and I threw in the unaltered original New Hope that was released on DVD a few years back in that set. After scanning through some of the effects-laden footage, I must admit: Some of the effects shots are pretty dodgy and I for one am GLAD that those have been touched up and modernized. Theres hardly any dog-fighting in the Yavin Battle - its mostly close ups and was quite obvious they were avoiding having to show too much. This scene has the MOST improvements, IMO.

The light sabres look suspect in many shots, there are ships that fly right through other ships(obvious mistakes) and various other things that just dont look right. The same can be said for the big ship battle at the end of ROTJ which we also took a look at.

I think what he and I agreed on was that the effects clean up and modernization of some of the action shots are welcomed changes and they make the films look better. Period. We DO agree that han shot first, the Jabba barge song is way better in the original-unaltered ROTJ, and there are other things here and there that arent the best additions.

Overall though - go and watch the originals or at least watch the scenes Im talking about.... you'll be HAPPY they did make some updates. Trust me.

I just watched the originals (SW and ESB) last night and I loved every minute of them just they way they are. They looked just as they did when I was 12 and 15 years old and I wouldn't change them for the world.
