Yes Spikes so much of a racist, that the guy has had pretty much every race known to man in his movies, some in lead roles in his movies but he is a racist. I love how people continually label Lee with all kinds of untruths in this thread. I find it extremely difficult for actors like Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Barry Pepper, Rosie Perez, Danny Aiello, John Turturro, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Anna Paquin, Willem Dafoe, Christoper Plummer, Mira Sorvino, John Leguizamo, Harvey Keitel would work with such a racist and a racist would work with those actors. GTFO with this nonsense.

The thing about the ticket sales going to other movies has been going on for years. It has happened to me. I buy a ticket for a movie, usually a movie with a black cast or director and it will say a different movie on it. You act like this is some isolated incident and Lee fabricated it. Not true at all.

The Spike TV thing was stupid but if you are going to rip him for that then be prepared to rip a lot of famous people for doing stupid things.

You know, WyldeMan, I'll defend you. As a person of a non-white ethnicity, I'll say that I've never had a problem with you and any offensive racial remarks. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with Spike Lee being so proactive about keeping the history of his people in the forefront of people's consciousness, I can understand why people would be off put by it. I think it's a bit of a stretch to call him racist just because of that. He has every right to name his production company that without being racist. But with that being said, I don't agree that you not liking Spike Lee is racist either. So, what's my point? Everyone should stop being so quick to call someone else racist. Maybe none of you are.

Maybe YOU should actually watch and listen to that. I didn't hear him say 'racist white government' in that clip. You are fabricating and twisting what he said. Also in that video you could see Maher understanding Lee's point as well. So is Maher a racist too. Furthermore that theory about the levees has been said by quite a few people especially people close to the situation in New Orleans. Are you that naive to think he is the only person that believes that and therefore he is a racist for saying it. That makes no sense. So he's a racist because he believes those levees were tampered with. My point is you are crossing a dangerous line when you start throwing out 'he's a racist', he said 'racist white government' etc and twisting words.

I have a question for you guys: Excuse my amateurity (-ishnes, or whatever), but would I be missing much if I just watched Oldboy instead of the whole Vengeance Trilogy? I'm usually a stickler about not seeing a complete series, but honestly, Oldboy is the only one that interests me. The other two, I haven't heard nearly as much about. Pretty much nothing, to be honest.

Oldboy is the best of the three but you'd definitely be doing yourself a disservice by skipping the other two. Honestly, though Oldboy is my favorite movie ever, I think Lady Vengeance might actually be a better film.

Oldboy is the most balanced, Mr. Vengeance is the most violent, and Lady Vengeance is the most stylized. The trilogy as a whole is high on style and very offbeat. All are good, but they're a tad overrated, imo, especially Oldboy (it's got a couple of unforgettably awesome scenes though). I prefer Kim Ji-woon and Bong Joon-ho's revenge films over Park Chan-wook's.

They're not a trilogy in the traditional sense. It is not a continuous story. All 3 are stand alone stories with completely different characters that share the common theme of vengeance.

I never liked the idea of a remake of this film. It is one of my favorite movies of the past 10 years and I hate the idea of Hollywood ruining it by mutilating the substance of it. I just think they should either leave it alone, or make it a unique story while taking aspects from the original and rename it so as not to confuse it with the Korean version.
