All the crap about the Toshiba players (A2) selling like hotcakes is BS too. They will do good to sell 15,000 per month average. That's about half what the DVD rate was back in '98. Most regular consumers aren't even going to give HD a close look until their local B&M rental stores start having day and date new title releases anyway.

I note a new recruit is now spamming (Timothy Ramzyk) and he's claiming the A2 only hit the steet last week ("and is selling very well").

Soooo, Toshiba can't manage to get a player out less than FOUR months late (it was supposed to be out in October) and or work properly?! And Amir tells us to expect LESS from the Chinese?!

Wow, that's a scary thought.

I myself always intended to buy a stand alone (Sony). I was however tempted by the Playstation's price. It may well be an excellent player but I had to have the beautiful looks and heft of the BDP S1. Its built like a tank. Haven't had a single problem with it yet. I was tempted to wait for the hdmi 1.3 but I just couldn't hold out that long. Love my Sony.

Default HD DVD fans in SERIOUS denial...

Looks like LAGOSIAN, plazman and hmurchison can't quite come to terms with the latest figures showing BD hardware closing the sales gap. Funny stuff.

I have been following this one, they seem to think that it is a BD conspiracy and Sony have paid NPD off to report bad numbers. Idiots.

It is better to just trust Amir and Amazon rankings - those are much more important than real sales numbers from independent reporting...

Time for a new article from rdjam on his web site!

Delusional or paid supporters?

EDIT: I reported plazman's post. If you note, I tend to be careful and challenge the message and not the messenger on there, as requested by the moderators. But, that crap is unchallengable. It's libelous drivel.

Amir and certain Amazon rankings (only those that support the cause). Don't go overboard and think that most current rankings are anything but nonsense and will remain so until they show what people want to see.

I noticed Plazman falls back on printing an article from a whole month ago from someone who isn't on the inside as proof that the NPD is lying.

All this does is prove that the trends that Brian and I have been talking about aren't just common to our area. BD has been outselling HD-DVD now for a while. I think that its so funny that the MS-DVD camp was so confident that their standalone were just blowing BD out of the water when the reality of it all is, if all playing grounds were equal, BD would be smashing MS-DVD by now. Their run is coming to an end very shortly now... I'm sure that is why the Paramount and Universal releases have pretty much dried up.

well, my thread has gotten out of control but it's still there.
The conspiracy theories are funny. NPD is not trustworthy, they're biased, it's a CONSPIRACY!!!!

Well, whether they like it or not, these are the kinds of figures the industry looks at...not eproductwars (unless you work for MS). As the facts continue to stack up in BD's favor, the decision makers will start to take notice. Everyone from retail stores, to CE companies, to movie studios (I'm talking about you Universal). HD-DVD has stalled and is in a flat tailspin. Better "eject" now while you can. Just don't hit your head on the canopy on the way out...like Goose did

its realy sad that some of the AVS member's refuse to think the #'s that NPD released is not true..some how its slanted toward BD. the fact is since APR 2006 when HD-DVD was released ..remember TOSHIBA has to split its production for blu-ray also....

http://www.tsstorage.com/corp_e/indexe.html

thats the problem the optical drive production is split between TOSHIBA AN SAMSUNG ..the key here is SAMSUNG they make Blu-ray drive's at the same production plant as the HD-DVD production ..IE: their one an the same production plant..which only hurts HD-DVD even more..the fact that HD-DVD still after almost a year only has 4% of the market in the US ..when the playstation 3 is not even counted..shows what the indication of how much impact the PLAYSTATION 3 as a blu-ray player will have just like the playstation 2 had with DVD ..it is history repeating itself ...the future looks very strong for the playstation 3..due to blu-ray being there in the first place.

the WAR IS JUST A MYTH BLU-RAY ALREADY WON BECAUSE OF WHAT NEC did:

NOW I DON'T WANT YOU TO MISS THIS LOOK at each link!

SET:

Sony and NEC to Merge Optical Disc Drive Businesses
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"
Feb. 27th, 2006 4:45 pm
Sony and NEC announced today in Tokyo that they have signed an agreement to combine their optical disc drive businesses into a single company, Sony NEC Optiarc Inc., which will start operations on April 3, 2006.

Shinichi Yamamura, who is currently the Deputy President of Sony’s Video Business Group, will be the president of the new company, which will be capitalized at 490M ¥ (4.1 million dollars) and have a total workforce of 350 employees. Sony will own the 55 percent of Optiarc while the remaining 45 percent will be owned by NEC.

The new company will combine Sony’s expertise in optical pick-up heads with NEC’s proficiency in optical LSI logic. Sony is the main backer of Blu-ray Disc technology while NEC decided last year to join the HD DVD camp, which means that the new joint venture company will manufacture and sale both technologies.

As you can see, if Blu-ray Disc fails, Sony will still make money from HD DVD by manufacturing disc drives. That’s a great back-up plan.

Will Toshiba start manufacturing Blu-ray Disc drives? Could Sony end up manufacturing Xbox 360’s external HD DVD drive? This next-generation DVD war is definitely getting hot.
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10339/...ve-Businesses/

An look what happened:

http://www.sonynec-optiarc.com/index.html

match:

Will Toshiba start manufacturing Blu-ray Disc drives?

answer:

http://www.tsstorage.com/corp_e/indexe.html

an with more hardware support: as of right now
an its been that way for over a year now.....
blu-ray optical drive production companies: 12
hd-dvd optical drive production companies: 1
an with movie studio support that blu-ray has over HD-DVD there is going to be only one outcome... an even TOSHIBA KNOWS THIS ALREADY

BLU-RAY is the winner because of support PURE AN SIMPLE......
PS: why hate on SONY they also support HD-DVD.....ALSO
