Hey Aerodude73 or anyone else who wants to chime in...

Have you watched Dune yet on blu-ray? I was wondering if it has house rocking bass making it a good bass demo. Thanks.

I don't own that, but if you have or could borrow/rent these, you'd have some great demo material:

WAR OF THE WORLDS - Opening POD scene from the intersection (Incredible!)
THE DARK KNIGHT - Hospital Explosion (Thunderous!)
HELLBOY II - Too many to mention, entire movie has Great LFE.
KUNG FU PANDA - The infamous "Skiii-dooosh!" scene near the end.
THE INCREDIBLE HULK - Sonic Cannons during campus fight scene.

I have most of the demos in your list except for Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk. I have rented Panda and Hulk but never did add them to my collection.

I'll probably add Dune since it is one of my all time favorite sci-fi novels along with Alien. The sandworm scenes should have some really awesome LFE. I'll post my findings later.

That's a bummer! I thought it would be otherwise. Thanks for the heads up on that one.

Tron Legacy certainly has a HUGE workout for the PA-120.
It's quite impressive (and fun to watch too).

Got my surrounds hooked up finally and got a new tv stand. After I got everything moved and in place (for now) I ran Audyssey again, my PA 120 sounds even better after this last Audyssey calibration.

I had a couple of my friends over on Friday, I played the pod rising scene from WotW and the Ironhide flip. They loved it.

Source Code had some nice LFE in spots, its also a good movie.

BMFC -
Just curious what Audyssey set your LCR and sub levels too this time. Audyssey set my LCRs to -6 to -8 and my PA-120 to -15 and I couldn't hear any bass. I manually set the PA-120 to -5 and it sounded much better in blending with the fronts.

My PA-120 put out some awesome jaw dropping LFE during the sandstorm scenes in Flight of the Phoenix. There was one moment when the bass just rumbled through the whole house. It gave me quite a chest massage.

Master and Commander didn't tip the scale much though. The cannon fire sounded like pop guns compared to those in Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Even the catapults in the opening battle scenes in Gladiator sounded better than the M & C cannons!

Just now seeing this. I'll try and check later. I may be moving stuff around again in the MANCAVE, so I may just post the new levels then.

Copped Cloverfield at Sams for 6.88

Had stuff downstairs in my kitchen rattling.......

Well i'm going to join the club soon I just purchased a PA-120 to run as a second subwoofer. Hopefully I can make it play nice with my Acoustic Audio HD Sub-12. I'm going to be building to DIY subwoofer stands for them soon to. Hopefully I get it in before Fast Five & Transformers DOTM come out.

Default Star Wars

Hi Everyone,

So like many, I've been watching the Star Wars blu-rays and am so glad I have the PA-120!!!!

I've watch Ep 1-3 so far (and started #4) and it's been just awesome. If you don't have them - buy them - they rock!

Good luck & hopefully the 2 Subs will "play well" Together for you. If not, sell the AA one & get a 2nd PA-120, like I have.

Good luck on the DIY Sub stands/risers. I did one for my 2nd PA-120
[Show spoiler](the front one has the SubDude)
, & the DIY Riser thread has Many different styles/ideas to choose from if you're not 100% sure which way to go.

My thoughts exactly! I have some foam already from work but it kinda looks like acoustic foam with the little pyramids on it. I will just need to work out how to build the frame and what carpet to use on it. It will probably be painted black like yours afterwards as well.

I just got the shipping notice and it says I should get it by September 28th just in time to get it set up before Transformers comes out!

Well I got mine in yesterday and got it set up and calibrated after stuffing it with some polyfil. I was really impressed with the bass it was putting out during the last battle scenes in the first Transformers.

It hit me a lot harder in the chest and I could feel the couch vibrate which my HD SUB-12 never did. I moved it in the corner facing towards the couch underneath my end table and it worked out really well. Calibration did take some time but not too long. I bumped both the subs up to about 78db's using the spl meter.

Can't wait to see if my DIY riser makes a difference or not. I think I might have went to tall with mine though I went about 4" tall, might have to shorten it down. How tall are yours Aero? If you didn't see my post in the DIY thread go check it out and let me know what you think. I think it was a different approach hopefully it pays off.

Glad to see new buyers continue to be happy about their PA-120 purchase. I still love mine and think it was one of the best bargains in my HT. I like peeking in here and people discussing the sub that I posted about so long ago.

By the way, War of the Worlds literally shakes and rattles the windows in my living room.

I'm very happy with my purchase so far its hands down better than my HD Sub-12 from acoustic audio. But having both of them going at the same time is even better.

Transformers showed me where some more rattles are in my house last night, I just need to get my riser finished to help with that though.

Watch 1-5 and now 1/2 way through ep 6 ROTJ.
When Jabba's "barge" explodes - it's totally awesome - just over the top.

I'm very happy with how SW turned out on blu-ray. The sound is outstanding. I'm pretty sure we'll get another version of these with new scans in 2018 - but for now these are waaaay better than the dvd's.
