Default Michael Clayton.. No Lossless audio

Michael Clayton was one of my favorite movies this year, and I was looking forward to this release. I'm a little miffed that it doesn't have lossless audio though. The Brave One and In the Valley of Elah both have Dolby TrueHD. I just wish Warner would be more consistent with their use of lossless audio. Any idea why they wouldn't include it? The video couldn't be any more than 30gb so I know they had space...

I have a feeling until they are exclusive in June, they will use the hd dvd authoring codecs. It may take time to get the authoring and mastering equipment for a true AVC and lossless for their Blu Ray releases.

Yeah.. same problem last year with the Ocean's movies. I too wish they'd use lossless for everything, as there's really no reason not to on a BD50.

Aside: Michael Clayton is going to be a blind buy for me, I missed it in theaters, but it looks good enough to try it out. =)

I do agree that they will continue to use VC-1 until they stop making hd dvd. I don't mind that as much. It's the fact that they have In the Valley of Elah coming the same day as Michael Clayton with lossless audio, so its clear that they have the ability to encode with it. They simply choose not to .

This is disappointing. I am also bummed that Jesse James is without lossless audio. Hopefully moving forward this will change.

I have a feeling WB will continue to use VC-1 on Blu-ray after they are totally exclusive, but at a high bitrate.

Right, which won't matter. People, VC-1 ISN'T A BAD CODEC! I just started a whole thread about this. It's the low bitrate ports that are the problem. AVC doesn't automatcially mean the picture will be good just as VC-1 doesn't automatically mean the picture will be bad.

As for the audio, that is actually something to complain about. I hope that WB actually switches to PCM instead of Dolby TrueHD for their future titles just because they some how enable dialnorm when it's not nessisary at all. And it alters the track more than it should.
