I just switched from HD-DVD A-30 to the Sony PS3 80GB, the problem i'm having is when watching movies using 1080P24FPS setting the image has a ghost blotchy effect or motion blur when watching action scenes.
I've never noticed this when watching HD-DVD movies using the same setting on my Sony 52" KDL52W3000. When I set it to 1080P everything looks fine, I just don't understand why 1080P24 doesn't work well with the following movies "3:10 to Yuma" and "Nacho Libre" on the PS3. |

It could be your TV. When the "24" feature first came out, a lot of people had issues with it because their TV couldn't display it properly. I have a Samsung HL-T6189S. I think it is the top of the line in that series of DLPs. It is a little less than a year old and it handles that 24fps thing great. I've never had an issue with it. But other Samsungs in the same line have issues.

Out of curiosity have you tried setting the option to "automatic"? If you are only noticing it on these two movies see if it reoccurs under the automatic setting and then make sure you don't see a difference in another movie you own but did not have an issue with before.

I finally got it to work properly, I had to turn off noise reduction on my TV.
My guess is that the dark night scenes in 3:10 to Yuma was too much for the Sony Bravia engine to process causing the ghosting images. With the noise reduction turned off everything looks perfect again. Now if I can only do something about the PS3 sounding louder than my surround sound system. ![]() |

HD-DVD records all movies at 30P, period. The original 24P is in there, so it is produced accurately by a HD-DVD player that is actually capable of displaying it. Your TV may not be able to handle true 24P. Blu ray records at true 24P, and 3:2 pulldown is applied to those of us without 24P tv's. Try clicking the info button on your tv that displays resolution and frequency. This should answer to that possibility. It's either going to say 30hz or 24hz. Good luck.
