Thank you JJ. I'm glad to have tons of training. The incident was terrible & unavoidable. I shouldn't of shared the details on here, but the worlds not always a perfect place.... I certainly would not wish anyone to be put in a situation like I found my self in.

If anyone is interested (and the top two parties that have shown it I've already notified) in purchasing my 2-year old Kuro, I have it available for sale. Check out the Home Theater Equipment section under the trade forum here:

Unhappy calibration of pioneer kuro 5020

Just wondering since pioneer doesn't make anymore plasma tv's.Does anyone know if they released any information how to calibrate these tv's other than by movie mode that has been appreciated by D-Nice from AVS,I've had it calibrated in movie mode BUT IT ISN'T RIGHT,I appreciate my picture from my Panasonic 720p that I purchased for far less money ,and I know this pioneer has the potential ,my friends have the same and their TV"S LOOK GREAT,if anybody could help I would be grateful...

What do you mean by if they released any information on calibration?

All the info on how to calibrate can be found on the web. Do you have the required instruments?

Default calibration of pioneer kuro 5020

jkcheng122 ,yes i've seen settings for the 5020,but they could only be calibrated in movie mode professionally ,which to me ,it was explained by D-nice and the tech who calibrated my tv that he could only calibrate in movie mode cause that was the only way that was available at this time!!The point I getting to is it can't get to its potential because pioneer locked out techs to calibrate this TV ,the difference is that the elite has more tweek capabilities then the 5020(which I was told that was the reason for the price difference between the both,it made it more affordable !!)one of the reasons pioneer got out of the plasma business ,made a great TV ,not enough profits, understanding that I figured by now they would let techs be able to tweek same as elite .(again that is what I was told about the elite vs the 5020)So if there is something I'm missing please I would be interested to know.(and everyone tells me that you see the types of TV's in stores with unrealistic color, and that is what tries to sell TV's,I go to movies and see the same types of color, but they say that's not what the home copies are suppose to look like???)excuse me for rambling

You can swap out the "board" in the 5020 for a 111 board & have every feature the Elites have. I have some pics in my gallery, that might help a little.

The other modes can be adjusted as well, the thing you can only adjust 1 and the settings will carry over to other modes. The reason Movie mode was chosen is b/c it closest adheres to the 6500K standard for white level.

Saying the TV cannot reach full potential from Movie mode is absolutely untrue. Either the TV is not calibrated correctly or you are simply not used to how standard 6500K looks. The settings that the Elite has over the 5020 are Color Management settings and gamma settings. Not being able to adjust these settings does not make a big enough difference to be upset with how the TV looks. Colors are a bit oversaturated and gamma is at 2.1 instead of 2.2, which is not bad at all and it is a flat gamma curve across all IREs with no significant deviations.

What you see in the movie theaters is what you're supposed to see on the TV at home, with the lights turned off. It's also possible one of the settings like that energy saving thing and the ambient light sensor were turned on, causing problems for you. You say your TV is calibrated by a pro? Do you have the before and after results? The calibrator should have the reports for you in either pdf format or printed on paper.

I have an Elite board at my house that's not been used, I think I paid around $125 for it. You basically take the back off the TV remove the board and replace it with another. Here is a site/link that has a play by play with pictures and all.

http://www.hippotechsolutions.com/?page_id=2693

Enjoy.

Love my Kuro too much to try something like that. I do have the VideoEQ Pro (mentioned at http://www.hippotechsolutions.com/?p=1905) though which fixes the color issues for the 5020.

I've lost my stand. Someone PLEASE tell me the KRP-TS02 stand fits the 5020FD.

Or anyone w/ a 101FD or 500m on a stand take a picture of the back of their television so I can measure.

Based on these images and dimensions:

and

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ep.../PRO-101FD.pdf

Of a 5020s rear, a 101FDs rear, and my own measurements of my 5020, I've concluded the KRP-TS02 will fit in the slots. As far as securing the holes, we'll see. But it should slide right in.

If anyone has first hand experience otherwise, please inform me.

It'll fit, you'll have to remove the bottom speaker off of the Pioneer for the TV to sit correctly in the stand though.

Of course. I haven't used my bottom speaker w/ the 5020...ever.

Just wanted to hear someone else say it, and who better than a 5020 and 101 owner?

Thanks!

I think I found a Pioneer Elite at my local Best Buy in Fairfield, CA. Looks to be a 60", but it has a price tag on it for a 70" Sharp . I have no clue what they plan on doing with it. It's a display model and I couldn't find any associate on the floor to inquire about it. I'm going to head there tomorrow to see if I can get some kind of killer deal on it.

Ask if it's a LCD/LED or Plasma...if it's a LCD/LED then it's a Sharp and NOT a true Pioneer plasma. On the back of the tv it will say Pioneer or Sharp. Pioneer is not in the tv business anymore and doesn't make plasmas anymore.

I know. I was walking by and saw the Elite insignia on the TV. Nowhere did it say Sharp anywhere on the TV. I think they just stuck any price tag on it that looked good. I can't imagine it being in their POS system anymore. I tried reaching my head around the back of the TV to see if I could spot the brand name but no luck. The "Elite" alone gave it away. I just thought maybe Sharp had stolen the Elite brand somehow. There's no way Best Buy could have a Kuro Elite on the sales floor, right?

It must be the Sharp. It's supposed to be outrageously nice, but time will tell. No way they have a Pioneer on display.

Pioneer's Elite team broke up, some went to Panasonic, some went to Sharp...I still can't figure out how they use the Elite name on a Sharp, but they do.

Some of the Pioneer Kuro plasma engineers when they were let go at Pioneer were hired by Panasonic. Panasonic appears to have shelved the Kuro technology with no plans for a Panasonic Kuro plasma.

Pioneer licensed the Elite brand name to Sharp. The Sharp Elite LCD screen hardware is 100% engineered by Sharp and the software is engineered by Pioneer technicians.

The Sharp Elites are LCD screens with LED backlighting. It has not arrived at the Best Buy Magnolia center in my area yet, so I cannot comment on the quality. Also there are no professional reviews on the new Sharp Elite yet. Rumors are that the Sharp Elite is the best LCD every made but that needs to be verified by the professional reviewers. We will have to wait to see how it compares to a 2008 model Pioneer plasma like the PRO-141FD which is currently used as a reference display by Home Theater magazine and others. The new Sharp Elite appears to use 3:2 pulldown at 60Hz for each eye for 3-D which is a disappointment. The old Pioneer plasmas from 2006, 2007, and 2008 were 2-D displays only, but they did use triple flash (3:3 pulldown) at 72Hz for 1080p/24 material. The ideal flat screen display when showing a 48Hz 3-D frame packed signal should offer triple flash at 144Hz like the professional high-end Front Projectors on the market.
