I think the ACC will be one of the super conferences. If they're smart they will go after schools like Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Central Florida, South Florida, etc.

They better.. SB nation had something about the SEC looking at UNC, UMD exc. we'd never win a chance at a NC if we got moved to the SEC

There will be some bleeding between conferences, of course, but otherwise it will be very regional. I wouldn't be surprised if at that time the non-BCS conferences form their own bowl agreement.
Corso basically said this same thing on Saturday. With four superconferences, the "Plus1" playoff system will finally be a possibility. East (ACC) vs West (PAC16) will play North (Big10+6) vs South (SEC). The winners will meet to determine a national championship.

While Texas A&M is the first to move (likely to the SEC), don't be surprised when the PAC12 makes the next few moves to become the first super conference. They are the most willing and fasting moving of the bunch (thanks to their new leadership) and have no reservation. The SEC is a little more hesitant, which is why you don't see them snatching up Texas A&M after the announcement of them leaving the Big12. But, as soon as the PAC16 is formed, you will see the other three (ACC, Big10, and SEC) jump at what's left of the Big12 and eat the entirety of the Big East (who is in transistion anyways).

Here comes the land-grab that should have happened last summer.

SEC will pick up Virginia Tech before they look at UMD or UNC. They are the best fit right now. DC audience. Strong football culture. Rural background. Hell, VT was an original Southern Conference member with most of the teams that now make up the SEC.

I think the Hokies will stay in the ACC as long as the ACC invites the proper teams to become a super conference. I wonder where Notre Dame will end up. This is going to force them to stop getting special treatment and finally join a conference. The Big 10 makes the most sense, but that doesn't mean anything these days.

That Georgia game was tough to watch, but it was a good game and the Boise State fans were pretty good (except for chanting "overrated"...come on, you're #5....but also it's true ).

I love Mark Richt - he is such a genuinely good guy, probably one of the best in football, but I just do not think he's got the edge or desire to coach SEC football anymore. The fans are downright nasty and have little else to worry about other than Georgia. Richt has his priorities in line, we do not. I don't think we deserve him the man, but we deserve a more passionate coach.

I don't like UGA's chances this weekend against South Carolina, and it'll be a rough season the rest of the way if we start 0-2, coming off the 6-7 season last year.

What sucks for Georgia is that Muschamp is off the market now. Being a Georgia alum, he would have been a great hire. They should be able to get a big name though.

I really don't see a reason for Notre Dame to join a conference if they don't want to. The Big East already has 8 non-football schools so if the Big East decided to kick out their non-football members (a real possibility) those schools could form a non-football conference and take some of the Atlantic 10's members and maintain a strong basketball conference.

Well with what is likely to be a four team playoff system consisting of the super conference winners, how would Notre Dame be able to contend for a national title?

I don't think that will be the format. I see it being an 8-team playoff with the 4 conference champions and 4 at large teams. I think there are more than 64 teams that will want to be in the top-tier league and that there will still be independents, most notably the military institutions and potentially BYU, and there may be schools like Boise State that don't get invited to a super conference but want to stay in the upper-tier so they go independent as well.

I see, I just assumed it would be a four team playoff system. It'll be interesting to see what we end up with, I would very much prefer an eight team system.

Notre Dame can't remain independant forever. They've had two 10-win seasons since Lou Holtz left. They have one year of greatness followed by years of metiocrity. They have a huge fan base, but without being a challenge, no one will want to play them.

I don't see a real good reason to believe that the ACC, the Big East or Big 12 will become a super-conference.

I won't deny it could happen, but what is with people's assumption that there will be 4 of them?

If Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12, and Virginia Tech and Florida State leave the ACC, I'm not sure the remaining Big 12 + Big East + ACC would deserve the tag "super-conference", even if you put all their teams together...at least not in football.

Still sucks that Basketball is getting left out. That's where the Big 12/Big East/ACC leftovers would still shine, but nobody cares.

Why would Vtech, FSU or even Miami want go to the SEC and become the Marylands, or Clemsons of that conference. They don't they'd want to stay somewhere where they can be on top.

I don't think the ACC is going to lose any of their big members to be honest with you. I know you don't agree, but I think Edsall is going to do a very good job at Maryland and have them competitive in the conference. By the way, this avatar is killing me.

it looks very nice

See I think this uniform move could help more then Edsall (I mean we drove down almost every time and it was still a one score game when it should have been a blow out, which I'm not happy about), but Oregon was the same way middle of the pack team between 01-08 and then Knight gets them tons of pup with all those uniforms and poof contenders. So hopefully Plank and Under Amour don't stop here. You've got to make the school relevant to recruits and that’s what Oregon did.

The same reason ALL of these moves are happening. Money and Prestige.

Does anyone, even Aggies, truly believe that TA&M will compete in the SEC?

The ACC and Big East are already the 5th and 6th ranked BCS conferences, and get treated as such. If these "super-conferences" form, they'll be even further behind.

Back when VT was fighting to get into the ACC when Miami made their intentions to move, many sports analysts said that VT should be left behind, becuase they would fall to the bottom of the conference. The next year, we were the top ACC team.

I'm not saying VT can compete in the SEC today (and let's be honest, neither can Texas A&M), but give it a few years of stronger recruiting and you'll see them quickly move towards the top.
