Don't expect to much- it was shot on 16mm and this is simply not good enough for BD release- never will look good. It has lots of grain as all 16mm sources.

That didn't stop The Evil Dead from looking excellent on Blu-ray.

I want that shirt. Too bad that at the moment, there isn't any in my size...

16mm can benefit quite a bit in HD.

Then again, I like seeing film grain and don't like DNR, so take that for what you will.

I've been getting into importing Arrow releases, however Synapse has had quite a good track record (not to mention some Arrow releases I really want, aren't 100% compatible for me, such as Funhouse). I'll wait until I can see the differences between the two releases before I make my decision.

Shame. Luckily Threadless do reprint, so the one you want will almost definitely come back in stock soon.

I'm still torn about which Arrow releases I want most, as I'm going to be watching a lot of horror in October and I'm looking for some good ones. It's hard because most of the Arrow horrors would be blind buys for me - all I have at the moment is Dawn of the Dead (pretty essential).*

I was considering getting Maniac Cop, Day of the Dead (seen it, but not for years) and The Funhouse to start... other suggestions?

You've got to get Day if the Dead as that is a classic for Halloween viewing. The PQs not the greatest but easily worth an upgrade though to be honest.
Personally I think The Beyond, Vamp and The Funhouse have the best PQ

Thanks for the suggestions! Day of the Dead is definitely at the top of my list at the moment in terms of Arrow's output.

thats interesting, considering 16mm has more lines of resolution than 1080p.

It's all theory

Anyway- I can tell that all grain is there, encoded at high bitrate, so it looks as master. DVD also looks good. Have not seen any other version, so can't compare. I hope it will be the best version out there

BIG SORRY
Maniac Cop was not shot on 16mm- I'm working on another project and I messed up titles

Maniac Cop looks good- it's quite raw master, no DNR, all grain there- high bitrate encode. Coming soon- you should be happy with it

It seems as though it's only going to have stereo, unless the specs change before release.

If I remember correctly, they did exactly the same thing with Dawn Of The Dead. The only 'exclusive' is that they get to sell it a few weeks before other retailers.

Its been delayed, so HMV are getting it at the same time as other retailers - Oct 31st.

Thats strange Synapse and arrow are using different prints

arrows is 91 min
Synapses is 85min with 6.1 sound

makes the choice very hard.

I'll eat my hat, if the Arrow's longer, regardless of the 'information' on this site. The Synapse DVD ran 87mins.
