Yeah, but stay away from that red toast. It tastes really nasty. Plus, I am suspicious of any form of toast that is supposed to improve with boiling.
Gotta say I am surprised. I certainly expected a definite win, but I also expected HD DVD deals and desperate attempts to shore up the numbers by a certain element of the red community to at least keep them above 30% or at least 25% What that proves is that, while they may be loud and obnoxious, that segment of HD DVD fans are not actually all that numerous. Yep. 65:35 to 85:15 looks like a big change, but 1.86:1 to 5.67:1 really shows how big the ratio got. I don't think people should expect this every week since Blu-ray had the BOGO for the 2nd week (HD DVD had it the first for super saver shipping), but still nice to see.
Is this the biggest number yet for Blu-ray? I thought Casino Royale week last March was probably the biggest before, but seems like that was low 80s. Also, I believe the rule is that the number above 50 gets truncated (this keeps it from ever getting to 100:0 if the lower one sold anything). So, 85:15 is really anywhere from 85.00:15.00 to basically 85.99:14.01 (if going to 2 digits after the decimal point). So, 5.67:1 all the way up to 6.14:1 is the possible ratio for 85:15. Because of the Amazon sale and 3:10 to Yuma, I think there is a good chance that the YTD will be a little over 75:25 for Blu-ray. --Darin |

I still can't believe that Graffeo keeps touting how the Toshiba players are getting cheaper spurring the sales. That crack he's smoking must be some premium stuff. According to him they will announce new titles including American Gangster soon. That may be the only major title they will have too.

What has me really curious is, considering that the WB announcement had this effect here in the US, where Blu was pretty consistently in the over 60% and under 75% range, what will the effect be in other parts of the world where BD had a much larger lead already? Because of the larger numbers, I expect that the shift won't be quite as dramatic, but I am still curious to see the outcome.

This is for the week of CES, meanig the 9th. We had alot of things going for us, BOGOS, Amazon HP delay, WB exclu. and others. I hope these are the correct #s, but lets wait to see the real #s before we clown DUD. And the price cuts for DUD players were this week, so it probably will go down a bit next week. Lovin the #s though!!!!!!!!!!!!

Universal should be looking at these numbers very closely. The Kingdom Released sept 07 Box Office, $47m 3:10 to Yuma Released sept 07 Box Office, $53m Kingdom HD DVD sales are already at 10% of new release, Yuma. Watch how well Yuma sells over the same 3 week period. Last edited by LynxFX; 01-17-2008 at 06:13 AM. |

![]() Can't wait for the details. BTW I don't believe this is a freak result. I expect to see 80+ from now on. Until Universal & P/DW cave in to the inevitable and the ratio goes into the 90's! |

We all declared HD DVD dead. 15% is not dead. Thus this week is clearly a victory for the red side.
Side note, I went back to the last HMM to make sure all my dates were correct. Anyways, anyone catch Disney's ad that says "Disney Continues To Dominate The Preschool Category"? Someone bragging about dominating preschool made me laugh. ![]() |

Let's say First Alert takes numbers from 60% of Nielsen retailers. That's such a massive sample that the market share will not change when the other 40% deliver their reports. In fact Nielsen did not adjust any of their First Alert market share numbers when they reported monthly shares throughout 2007. What does change is the volume. But studios will know what stores are reporting in First Alert and can estimate the volume for the total market (including the part of the market Nielsen do not report). This is why we saw studios touting numbers for '300', 'Transformers', 'Spider-man 3' etc. Granted the Transformers number was way out. Who knows what magic counter they used to come up with that number. |
