It's obvious people waiting on the fence or even those who were once HD-DVD only crossed over this last week. With that comes sales.
BluOgre, from the rentailer's perspective, is it fair to say that the format war is officially over for you guys? (I mean, as far as rentailers are concerned?)

I wonder when people are going to quit looking at % of sales. I think I will quit checking the neilson thread after one month straight of 85% BD.

I'd like to see us be able to move it over to Blu-ray v. DVD.

It will be embarassingly awful for years. But, at least we can talk about the gradual adoption.

BD vs DVD : when we get to a 5:95, that alone would be a victory. When we clear 10:90, that's the point of no return.

Good point. If I remember correctly, a "return" is counted as a "negative sale". So, the 85% blu-ray for the week may have been a cumulative of Warner, new BD purchases, and HD DVD returns. Anybody want to hazard a guess what the "return" category contributed to 85% BD?

85-15 sounds great to me.

But that number may go down a little this week. Last week had some strong titles.

I think returns count as negatives in the Nielsens, so that flood of unopened titles in response to Warner may be part of this landslide. Don't be shocked for HD DVD to make the 20s next week, but it'll be gradually down hill from there.

They do, which is why the HMM language "net HD DVD sales" is quite interesting. Presumably, net = sales minus returns.

Yes upon hearing the news of To-shit-bas crushing defeat in the Nielson's ratings here is what an hd dvd fan had to say yesterday:

How many people are even aware that there are two formats competing. I also read in that toshiba news release that they are going to work with stores increasing visibility. If these 130 dollar players don't grab Joe six packs attention then Hd is in big trouble.

Wow, they just don't have a clue!!!!

Interestingly, on prime-time TV last night, I saw my first dedicated HD DVD commercial. Not "Next Tuesday on DVD and HD DVD", but promoting HD DVD as a medium. Toshiba seems to be firing its last pop-gun.

You know, when all is said and done, and Toshiba is buried... I really, really wonder how much $$$ they have flushed down the toilet with HD-DVD.

A great deal, I suppose. Haven't we read that the Tosh division lost $360M last quarter alone? It has been a huge gamble for them in search of a huge revenue stream. As it turns out and barring three miracles, it will have been a highly expensive gamble.

That's the one! My wife watches it and, when I heard the HD DVD word, I poked my head in to watch the ad.

That's the first one I seen since the holidays, I am sure the BDA will respond. Besides every time the BDA shows a commercial on TV it's called advertising every time To-shit-ba does it its called flushing money down the toilet.

Are they even aware how pissed off customers are going to be at them for confusing them into buying a dead format?

Are they even aware when the consumer arrives at the stores that most honest sales people are telling them that it is indeed a dead format?

I keep wondering what in the world To-shit-ba be thinking in continuing this format war????
