Is this company like a a sub company of a another company. I.E. Paramount and dreamworks.

Weinstein is it's own entity. It was founded by ex-Disney/Miramax producers Bob and Harvey Weinstein. This is why you see guys like Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino doing business with them, as they used to go through Miramax for thier films.
