I'm pretty sure Microsoft's not in the business of issuing C+D orders to bloggers anymore. Even if they do lie. It's more so when they tell the truth that I remember the C+Ds crop up .
When it involves exposing them to more lawsuits, and is from a pretty reliable blogger they are. By suing, they would have to prove their injury, aka they'd have to open the books on their yields and everything else, which in the end would be far more disastrous

Or, as is most often the case, the entity shutting down the blog, because they don't want to do with the suit, or can't afford to, even if they were in the right.

I still maintain my view, sorry. Article isn't saying anything that wasn't already known or believed. It's done through anonymity [on both parties], so there's actually real accountability added or resultant.

I could post a blog entry on my live space, talking about how in confidence a Microsoft individual has said that the Zune line is being discontinued and no longer will be in production after May 08.

Would imagine it wouldn't get removed either, despite being on Microsoft's space.

[ add / edit ]
And of course, my backtrack, the blogger in question, obviously has alot more crediblity than my fictionous Zune Insider Reporter Blogger. And has done stories in the past that have panned out.

So I'm going ot say, while I don't necessarily trust the blog post, I'm not going to dismiss it as false out of hand. I'm just not going to accept it as true out of hand. Further, the point feels fairly moot to me, as those are issues that are pretty much already known or believed to be known. As an acknowledgement of cause, it'd be great, but since it's anonymous, it fails to be an acknowledgement of cause.

[ 2nd Edit ]
And I've determined that I like the non-word fictionous, it's a fun word to say.

So anybody have any idea what the failure rate is for the PS3, Its been a year and I havent heard much other than the BS that surrounded it in the beginning about the excessive heat. I bought that CC advantage warranty when I purchased mine anticipating problems but thus far I havent had an issue. I experience more problems with the sony bdp-s300 than anything and its only a couple months old

The numbers floating around last year were around 0.02%. That said, not sure how accurate those are.

Sony, hasn't had to extend their warranty and take a finance hit to cover it, so we don't have the 'simple math' to come up with a rough number of the failure rate [or anticipated failure rate].

some people may say I am going out on a limb here but I believe about 90 to 100 percent of the first line of 360s have a failure issue, 30 percent makes me laugh.....anyway I have 3/360s the first one crapped out... you guessed it first round 360....the ones bought after the apparent issues were played and played and played and still kicking also have new PS3 seems to being doing well and for some reason doesn't like to auto configure your wireless did it manually works good... the updates make PS3 a good buy not to mention Blu Ray player...though I am still awaiting a PS3 game that keeps my attention....I enjoy all my consoles and hope to get a Wii soon, 30% hahahahahahahahahahaaa...........

I do sometimes get a bit worried about my 360 (Xenon, purchased April 06'ish). I really don't use it that much anymore, though. My last 4 or 5 games have all been PS3 and I haven't bought an HDDUD since October or so...

My launch unit died 1 year after I bought it. I got a replacement that had a build date several months old. This one was actually DOA. I sent it back to them and then got a unit with a current build date. This one also lasted a year. The replacement they sent me also has a build date several months old. I am still on this unit now and play it all the time.

It sucks they have these issues but since they are taking care of them without cost to me I'm only mildly bothered by it. If I had to pay for the repairs I would be livid.

Well I can vouch (from my own experiences) for there being truth in them recycling boxes. Quite a few times when I sent mine in for repair for something as minor as the disc tray getting stuck, I recieved a box with a different serial# (and not because it was a new one) and having even more problems. Then all of the arcade games that I'd purchased were only playable when I had an internet connection due to some licensing mumbo jumbo. There was actually one time where I sent it in for repairs and it came right back to me with out even being looked at

This quarter they are expecting 1 M failures

MS was so focused on beating Sony this cycle that the 360 was rushed to market when all indications were that it had serious flaws.

In the end I think it was fear of failure, ambition to beat Sony

Whenever something failed and there was a question about whether the test result was false, they would remove that test, retest and ship, or see if the unit would boot a game and run briefly and then ship.

They would rationalize that if the first few million boxes had a high failure rate, a few 10's of millions of dollars would cover it. And contrasting that cost with a big lead on Sony, would pay it in a heartbeat. They weren't even thinking about Nintendo.

Compare that to Sony, who delayed their launch, even though they were behind, when their box wasn't ready.
wow..................just wow

I don't need a Microsoft insider to tell me that the Xbox 360 is a horribly designed console from an engineering standpoint. The real problem is that the Xbot fans have accepted this as standard procedure. Microsoft due to their various software monopolies can keep throwing money down the well to keep the whole thing afloat.

I guess it comes down to software, xbox live and the warranty.

If the 360 didn't have good software it would have failed quickly. If xbox live wasn't as strong as it is it would have suffered. If Microsoft would have not taken care of every console suffering from the ring of death it would have failed even quicker.

Besides making the console dependable in the beginning Microsoft has done well to handle the situation. They really need to fix the overall problem instead of patching it though. My guess is they are going to continue to patch it and spend more time on the next 360. The question then becomes, will the people buying the next 360 trust the hardware. I predict a ton of warranties being purchased.
