Have you guys looked at the threads on AVS lately? Man, the change in attitude by many HD-DVD fans is amazing. People like "MarkO" are even saying that they are ready to get into Blu-ray. They admit things do not look good for HD-DVD right now, and BD is taking the lead. They are also admitting that the PS3 has made a bigger impact than they (the HD-DVD fans) thought it would.

Duh.

it's weeks like this where i don't understand how you can be a hd-dvd supporter. if you look at our release list, it includes titles such as the departed, chronos, the marine, the usual suspects and many other good/fun/great films. what do the rest have? the departed? one versus our list is ridiculous. when you see a list like that, i have trouble understanding how you support the other format.

Yep, and it will just continue to get worse for HD-DVD supporters!

Fox is the one that is making the biggest impact for Blu-ray right now, releasing quite a few titles. Buena Vista has some pretty good titles being released as well. But, think about how much more studios like Fox, Buena Vista (Disney), Sony, and MGM have in their respective vaults that haven't even been announced yet! When they ramp up the big guns, it will give a new meaning to the phrase "shock and awe"!

To me, the only question is how long HD-DVD will continue to survive, as there is virtually no chance of it winning the format war outright.

Edit: all these upcoming new titles on Blu-ray are perfectly timed, as my new 1080p projector should be here by late March, early April! I have actually been holding off watching BD releases until the new pj gets here!

Judging by your avatar, I'd have to say the same thing about you.

BTW I was at Fry's last night and people were buying up BD's like crazy. Not just the promotion discs but also the weekly releases and others. It's gotten so great that they even added an end-cap dedicated to BD in the regular DVD section in addition to the original BD rack.

Sure, I am unopposed to ALL participating studios giving a "fair shake" to the formats by henceforth declaring neutrality and letting the hardware end decide the outcome. Fair enough?

if you look at simple hardware aspects, then things are certainly decided. after all, the hardware and it's specs are superior on BR.

Put that way? It sure is,
since you're indirectly admitting the painfully obvious: The hardware side for HD-DVD is sorely lacking.

Toshiba, Sanyo (another no show), RCA/Thompson, and "cheap Chinese players" don't exactly make people's toes tingle.

Of course I meant simultaneous neutrality by all existing exclusive supporters. A further condition would be that all releases by the studios would require an HD DVD and a BD version on the same day. But I really doubt that BD supporters would favor that exchange.

And why is that?

Personally, I would. I'm all for it.

At that point, it would come down to people choosing obvious big names like Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sharp, Mitsubishi, and pretty much every other notable CE manufacterer of merit or they could choose Toshiba, RCA (clones), or maybe Sanyo (no show) or some other second and third tier and second and third rate CE companies like these or unknown Chinese variants that haven't even shown up yet.

Hell, the more I think about it: I'd love to see this happen. Right now. Do it!

I would have loved to have seen the "perfect" format war where every studio put out every identical title simultaneously on both formats and simply let the chips fall where they may.

For all kinds of obvious reasons, we all knew this could never be. Sony's studios obviously would never release product for the rival format, so the theoretical "perfect and fair format war" dies right from that point on forward.

Now we're just discussing speculation and fantasy.

The same event was going on at my Fry's. The end-cap here has a Samsung player and a 42" HDTV showing Antz w/ the volume up quite a bit. People were literally crowding around it!

It was beautiful!

Thanks. Once Upon A Time in the West is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Several of Leone's other films are way up there for me as well. Truly a great director.

I am sure most BD companies would see that as a complete waste of money.

I never questioned the unreasonability of the idea. It was only to isolate the content from the equation in order to focus on hardware.

But I have no further wish to engage in any BD vs HD DVD debate here, for obvious reasons, so thanks guys, for being nice to me even though I'm completely on the other side. I'll check back from time to time.

we have no problem with opposing viewpoints... we only ask that you spell anything out in a logical manner and to back things up with concrete evidence and facts.

It only took common sense to realise that content was/is king...and that the PS3 would be the trojan horse it was designed to be.

Its also only common sense that the BD version of the Departed will sell more copies overall than hd dvd.
This will be true at Amazon....and even more so for in store sales.

To even bring up the Amazon current ranking reeks of hd dvd supporter desperation.

Whatever, it's higher than any blu-ray movie right now... and I was feeling so good seeing the charts of late, with blu-ray kicking it's a** all over the place.

Oy, makes me sick and I'm sure is just firing up the HD-DUD user base right now.

Good news for HD-DVD supporters. They needed a check mark in the 'win' column for a change.
