Yes, we'll wait and see. I am encouraged by the effort they have invested into the set. Also, if the creature detail in LotR is any indicator, Smaug will be the best-looking dragon in movie history.

That's Maleficent in the first two, Vermithrax Pejorative in the third, and the HP dragon in the fourth , right? What's it's name?

What about the dragons from "dragon heart" and " Eragon"? They were well done.

I haven't watched too many movies with dragons in them, but one of my favorites has always been 'Dragonheart'.

"I am the LAST dragon!!!"

Makes my mouth water knowing that they're leaving Hobbiton intact after filming this time around. Just knowing that I'll be able to walk around the Shire when I eventually take my New Zealand trip (hopefully in the next 2-3 years) makes me so happy. That's going to be amazing!

Not much in the way of spoilers in that post.

Quote:
the unmistakable sound of chopper blades hit our ears. It was circling us. Obviously someone had hired it to fly above and take photos of the set.

An hour or two later a small, single-engine prop plane did the same thing, flying low and circling. Photos hit the net shortly after, I noticed. The crew was quite annoyed, not because Hobbiton was being exposed to the world, but because the choppers and planes were constantly getting in the shot and the sound of the engines was either ruining takes or making the production halt until they got out of earshot… which could be a long while if they are circling.
Just need a few of these:

Isn't it obvious? It's the Hobbiton CC clubhouse! That's a sand trap near the 18th green, is it not?

I live a 30min drive from Hobbiton I should really get out my camera and do some investigating. Seems like a lot of effort though.
