I purchased the Shrek 3D four movie promo set from a member here on blu-ray.com for $36 shipped.
It really is an excellent price compared to getting the individual Best Buy Shrek releases that only come with the 3D disc and an oldray DVD. Now.... when is SHREK THE HALLS coming out on blu-ray??? ![]() |

Since no one mentioned 'special features' I take it there are none. I'll bet they release this set again with the two tv features. I'd like to have those also as well as the 3D features used at Universal's theme park (just wishing).
Anyone think Shrek is will be resurrected for another movie in the near future? Despite what the critics said the last one made money and it appears many here like the 3D blu ray release (I sure did). Puss n Boots has done ok also so the interest is still there for movie goers. |

Well, not all actually. Some have the feature locked out. Those with the lock usually come with a separate 2D BD. One of the reasons for the separate disks, is that the 2D perspective of the 3D version of the film is not always identical to the official 2D version of the film. These differences may be as minor as small changes in perspective in some scenes, or may be as major as effects being added or removed like focal blur, motion blur, or volumetric fog.

Confused me as well for the longest time. Apparently, the AVC codec, in 3D mode *allows* for a 2D backward compatible read of the stream (like a core DTS versus full DTS-HD MA). But this feature can be locked by the content provider, disallowing 2D playback. Some of the reasons cited here are good ones (slight variation in 3D version and/or maximizing compression quality of a stand-alone 2D version for 2D viewers).

Just a heads up. A video on Youtube states that Shrek 1, 2 and 3 apparently DO NOT play in 2D. For clarification, do the movies play in 2D, or is 2D playback locked out? If so, that would be a bad move on DreamWorks's part, since they advertised the movies as playable in 2D as well

Ok then. Although, they are the Samsung editions, not the retail editions. It could be possible that code may've changed between releases. Until I get proper confirmation these movies play in 2D on a 2D player, I'll play it safe and hold off buying them either until confirmation, or I finally get my 3D equipment. Whichever comes first.

They should be. Same masters. Nothing will have changed. But the retails Shreks have the preview for Puss in Boots. That has no affect on the movie master.

My math shows the best buy set as being half price. What do you guys think? The list price is $35 each, or 140 for the set. They are on sale for 30 or 120 for the set. Bestbuys ad says buy 2 get a 10 dollar gift card. Buying 4 saves 20 dollars off the price, puting the set at $100. Each movie comes with 7.50 to see puss in boots in theaters, which I wanted to see with my family anyways, saving another 30 dollars. That puts the set at 70 dollars or half of the msrp of 140. With that in mind, what do you all consider to be the better value, the best buy set at 70 dollars (half price), or the samsung/ebay set for $40? Also, I have a wierd quirk where I don't really want to own a non-retail version of something, usually due to lack of packaging quality and or bonus features. Any remarks about the "value" of either set?
