No problem at all, I'm glad to help.
Ok, got the DSS module today and gave it another test with movies. My initial impression is correct as when I tested with the DSS module from the DPX21 phones. That is, non Dolby encoded sources (DTS, DTS HD-MA) will not play when bitstreamed from the PS3. Your only choice for DTS/DTS-HD MA if the disc does not have a vanilla DD 5.1 track is to change the PS3 to output LPCM instead of bitstream. The output results in 2-CH PCM from the PS3 via Optical, and the DSS module then kicks into Dolby Pro-Logic mode. However, in this mode it does not sound like Dolby Headphone is engaged as it sounds stereo to me, versus when receiving a DD 5.1 stream I can hear the surround effect with Dolby Headphone. In which case, I don't know for sure if Dolby Headphone only supports a 5.1 stream or if the DSS module itself only does Dolby Headphone with a 5.1 stream. Nevertheless, it still sounds great. Dolby TrueHD on the other hand works fine and the core DD 5.1 lossy format is delivered to the DSS module. Iron Man was a joy to test out - it sounded fantastic! Hmm ok. Well I've been playing bluray in stereo for the last year (not all films, just when I watch them at night) so I guess with non Dolby films, stereo would do. Alot of my films are from Sony so they have Dibly digital.
I wonder if there is another similar sound processor that can handle all surround sources. I will look into it, but it looks like I will go with this route you have suggested. Cheers mate, thanks so much Quote:

Just curious, I've been looking at this for a while:
Yamaha YMC-700 neoHD If I hooked this up to my ps3 via hdmi to get a the source and then hooked up the headphone jack to the F540 receive box, then the F540 straight to the PS3 USB, you reckon I would still get digital surround sound to the headphones.? |

Are you saying send HDMI video to the Yamaha, then use the RCA connection from the PS3 multi-adapter to the F540 base unit for audio, and then the F540 USB to the PS3 USB for communication? If that's what you mean then it should work, you would just have to enable the PS3 multi-audio option in the Sound Settings. However this would also always be stereo in this configuration as the PS3 doesn't have any DSP or sound processing that would produce a surround effect out of the RCA out.
I also can't comment on bass output though if that matters to you, as that's where the DSS unit comes into play. Without the DSS when I connected the F540 directly to my AVR, I really missed not having the subwoofer type bass from the DSS module. Last edited by red_5ive; 12-07-2011 at 03:25 AM. |

I just got the earforce dss today for the primary purpose of using it for my blu-ray movies on the ps3. The problem I am having is that I can't get it to do Dolby Digital, it only does Pro Logic II no matter what movie or settings or set ups I try.
I've done ps3 -HDMI-> TV -TOSLINK-> DSS -3.5mm-> Headphones and ps3 -TOSLINK-> DSS -3.5mm-> Headphones I have my TV digital audio output set to Dolby Digital, the other option is PCM I have tried the PS3 output as HDMI only, Optical Only and Multiple output and with all of those I set the PS3 to output Dolby Digital 5.1 along with the default PCM 2.0 44.1khz and 48khz I have tried movies with DTS-MA with Dolby Digital 5.1 (Like the Incredibles) and movies with Dolby TRUEHD with Dolby Digital 5.1 (Like Iron Man) and neither lit up the DD light. I know the DSS works because I get Dolby Digital with my xbox 360 and external hd-dvd drive and I get Dolby Digital on the PS3 with my games. What am I doing wrong? |

If that doesn't do it and you meant you enabled "Optical and Multiple Out" simultaneously, that might be the problem if you set HDMI first, then enabled Multi-Out. What this will do is make Optical "secondary" and will only send PCM 2.0 via the Optical port. Try setting it to Optical "only" (no Multi-Out) using manual configuration and of course enable the checkboxes for Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD. Once you get it working make note that "Dolby Digital" will not be triggered on the DSS module when playing DTS and DTS-HD MA sources as the DSS module only has a Dolby decoder. You actually won't get any sound as a result so you will need to switch to LPCM and the DSS will only output DPL. Last edited by red_5ive; 12-17-2011 at 02:44 AM. |

I would like to know that too. I have the PX5 but I mainly use it for my Xbox and PS3. My PC does not have an audio optical output but would like to get a new audio card and try my PX5 out on it.

According to their site, it does support PC, you just need to have either a Optical Out, or buy the usb attachment that acts as a Optical Out port. |

not at the same time, it wouldnt work that way. only one can be on, its just easier than switching the cables around, although once a reorganise my setup, that would be a pain to do, just makes life easier
