Yep, that's about when I saw it...
80's 3-D was still following the rules of 50's 3D--None of this Avatar "depth" crap, just have someone point a gun, finger, grossout object, roly-poly fish head (and poin-ted sticks!) out into the audience every five minutes, that's what they paid you for.
Sort of like Drive Angry, only not as subtle.

A quick highlight reel of everything they threw at us, literally:

Everything I've heard/read would suggest Jaws and Jaws 3D (as in the third movie) are getting released August 14, and NOT a Jaws being redone into 3D like Titanic, though to be honest I would love to see it. JAWSmovie.com is just fans, same as this site and they are no closer to Speilberg than I am regardless of their claims.

Glad to see this is the original Jaws 3D being released in stereo 3D, instead of anaglyph as most theaters had back then. Never in the 80's did I even see an ad or theater for stereo 3D. Even back in the day, Spy Kids 3D was using anaglyph at the local Cinemark theater.

I hope Jaws 3D is reasonably priced at $22.99 or less.
I wish ALL 3D Blu Rays would start coming out cheaper! This format will never survive if they continue to be priced at $35-40+ per 3D BluRay.

I saw Jaws 3D on VHS and it was a total schlockfest. The entire cast sucked and so did the fake plastic shark.

Needless to say, I will buy this on DAY ONE!

patience grasshopper! if i remember correctly weren't regular blu-rays priced this high for the 1st couple years they came out? it's the same for any new medium. blu-ray prices are just starting to come down imo with more and more good titles being added to the $7.99 bargain bin everyday. 3d blu-ray will eventually find new release prices at $19.99 on a consistent basis... might be another year or 2 before this happens though. for now, i have set my 3d price point below $30 and blu-ray price point below $20. i think studios will keep finding ways to keep the price of movies between $20 and $30 though.

think about it... inflation exists but when it comes to media the prices have been pretty consistent throughout the years. movies have been at the $20 price point since vhs and cds have been around $10-15 and video games have been around $50-60 each since i can remember. people keep complaining about prices but from what i can tell, we have been paying the same for media my whole life.

Well in the UK, 3D blus are becoming more and more expensive. To the point of ridiculous. During the build up to Xmas, prices like 29.99 sterling for the likes on BATB and Lion King is just wrong. No wonder people aren't buying! I had to look at my money twice the other day when I shelled out 22.99 sterling on Final 5. I have NEVER paid so much for a 3D movie and vowed I never would, but these prices seem to be becoming the norm over here. A nail in the 3D coffin if these retailers aren't careful. I would original buy the odd title on spec before when they were priced at 14.99 (ish) sterling, but now I am being a lot more choosy.

Dennis Quaid sucks? Lea Thompson was in it too.

JAWS 3-D was actually a big hit when it came out. Not a flop like JAWS THE REVENGE...and quite watchable in 3-D. Without it, it's not so hot (obviously), but 3-D ought to restore a lot of the fun to it.

I really liked Jaws 3D when I saw it in the cinema all those years ago. Some lovely pop! Shows that 3D can really make a bad movie good!

Bring on Friday 3 and Amityville 3 too!

Agreed! This was a blast in the theaters back in the day... as was Friday the 13th 3D. But the opening shot of the animated Jaws logo coming out of the screen was just awesome to a 12 year old!

More retro 3D titles need to be released on blu-ray3D, especially Friday the 13th part 3. I'm not the biggest fan of the Jaws series aside from part 1, but if they release this at 15 bucks I'll probably buy it.

well technically VHS movies when first released(save for a select big name titles) were upwards of 80 90 or 100 dollars. then dropped to the 20 point following their rental window.

But yeah your right, all things considered 20-39.99 has pretty much been the starting price point for movies for years and years. I had no complaints shelling out 34.99 for new blurays that when they first came out o n dvd also cost me that same price. Just amazing they werent priced higher to begin with.

You are absolutely correct! I managed a video store in Chicago and new release VHS were around $75 to $100 each depending on the volume we bought. Then there was a window of 3-5 months before it could be sold as "sell through" to the general public. In the meantime we would sell our used copies for $20-$30! There were VERY few movies that would come out for sale the same time as for rental and they usually retailed for no less than $30.

Not only that does anyone remember Laser Disc cost? I got Halloween for my birthday and it was $129 at Tower Records!

So yeah, $30 for movies isn't fun, but it's the cheapest now than it has EVER been.

Looks like several of us managed a video store at some point in our life. I managed Tower Video and everyone is correct. VHS tapes ran about $75 and up. Laserdiscs would run about $40 and up. I think the cheapest Laserdisc I purchased was Blow Out for around $29.Not even going into the deluxe CAV editions which ran almost $200. Where as VHS had a rental period before the movie was able to be sold Laserdisc didn't have those same restrictions, and the reason why I loved my laserdisc back then. I still have it with all my movies and it's still functional. I was also at Tower when DVD's first hit the market and they weren't cheap at all, they were running about $40 and up also.
But to get back on track with the thread I'm looking forward to seeing what Jaws 3D looks like, so I can't wait.

You Know your in for something bad when you hear that the Director (Joe Alves Jr.) was actually the PRODUCTION DESIGNER from the first 2.

That's silly!!!! ^

James Cameron was only an art dept. lead in 1980 and by 1984 he was a directing Terminator.

You are only making your baseless comment because Joe Alves directed a movie you think is bad, and he never did anything notable since either. Your comment is only correct because of hindsight.
