I'm one of those folks who loves the Disney animated films, am indifferent to the sequels, but have absolutely NO problem with the sequels being included as a 2-movie pack. I am not taking issue with people who are up in arms about it, but to me - it's a significant bonus feature on a movie I love.

What it seems people are failing to realize here is that Disney is out to make money. The cost to put out an underperforming, not particularly well liked DTV sequel like Poc 2 on Blu ray as an individual release would not be worth the money they would see back from it. It's a rough market out there, and Disney does not do Blu ray releases on the cheap (and before you jump all up about F&H - keep in mind that the movie looks DAMN good for its age and significance in the Disney cannon. Most complaints compare it to other Disney movies which have set a RIDICULOUSLY high standard that often even brand new releases from other studios can't match, but if you look at all Blu Rays of films released in 1981, I would imagine F&H is near the top when it comes to picture and sound quality). It is simply NOT worth their time, marketing, money, and manpower to put out a single disc Poc 2 when they could simply stick it on Poc 1 in the same flipper case, and claim they are giving consumers a 2 movie for the price of (basically) 1 bargain. Poc 2 as a single disc blu ray would lose money. But putting it on Poc 1 will likely attract more buyers than it repels, and boost sales ENOUGH to make it worth it.

The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Bambi sequels were VERY big DTV hits and merited individual releases. As were the MERMAID sequels, and, to an extent, the CINDERELLA and TARZAN ones. But I would expect that we will be seeing this bundling on MULAN, HUNCHBACK, BROTHER BEAR, ATLANTIS...

Hardcore, purist, Disneyphiles are NOT the top consumers of Disney animated films. They (we) are a fringe group and as such to not always get our every want and need catered to by money making conglomerate machines like Disney.

I for one, can't wait for this release. And if it's bundled with the sequel, so be it. At least POCAHONTAS is coming to Blu Ray!
