Default Are they not all 1080p???

Hello,

Ive got 8 BDs now and they are all Sony, since there are no other releases available in Belgium yet.

All boxes look the same, (cover style), BUT only on one cover there is a little logo of 1080p. That is on the Black Hawk Down disk. Why is this. Is it because this is the only 50 GB disk?

I suppose ALL BD disks are 1080p, are they not?

Maybe because they come from different studios it isn't on some of the cases?

Concerts shot on video seem to be in 1080i so far. I'm estimating that from the Pat Metheny and Tony Bennett discs. Both are 1080i but look like 1080p because they were shot on HD video, not upconverted film.

I think he is refering to the "FULL HD 1080" sticker that Sony has been sticking on all of thier HD products. Little Man and then most Sony movies released after that including BHD have this logo on the back of the movie on the bottom right.

It is indeed the full HD 1080p logo, but it is not a sticker, it is printed on only 1 backcover!

It looks like I don't have to worry... but It is strange that all Sony distributed BD's don't all have that logo on it.

Agree on Atlas. Again - shot on video. The China one is terrible. Best one is Australia, then Italy and Brazil are tied.

All cases of BD movies should have a description of the video and audio featured in the film. It should tell you if the video was encoded in 1080p. Majority of the films on either HD format are 1080p, so you have nothing to worry about.

All my BDs are theatrical movies and they're all 1080p.

It usually says on the back cover blurb next to the audio details.

Seems like the 1080 logo is a new addition.

Film is progressive natively. So all film based BDs should be released at 1080p domestically, though as noted above there have been some exceptions abroad. This includes most films shot using HD cameras.

Video is natively interlaced. So concerts and television programming shot in HD video will most likely be encoded at 1080i.
