In a related note, if someone had the 605 and went for the Monitor 7 towers or something similar, then paused for a few months (to pay other bills ), would it be better to first add a comparable center channel and save up for a sub, or first get the sub for a 2.1 system (if there is such a thing), and get the CC later?

In either scenario, what limitations on the sort of output you'd get from the receiver would you experience? Also, would either configuartion put any particular "strain," for lack of a better term, on any of the equipment?

Thanks.

I would get a center first...thats just me.

Your fronts could supply sufficient bass for the time being.

an LFE channel is separate from other channels, so no strain will be given, you will just lack dedicated extremely low frequency...but again your fronts will handle bass, you just tell the receiver there is no sub and the lfe is sent to the fronts.

3 speakers left right and center for around 1000 usd give or take a little.....WHAT WOULD YOU BUY.

Just me speaking here, but I'd say The B&W 685's, and HTM62 Center

$1,075 MSRP, you can probably get them to discount them, and get them for right around $1,000 after taxes.

Also, Your Sub is probably fine, I'd certainly upgrade everything else FIRST.

so is my 1996 active definitive tech 12"sub outdated or would this be able to keep up with the receiver and bluray sound?
The sub isn't providing any of the "wow" crispy-tasty sounds that you'll notice instantly.... the Center, then the Fronts are for that, then the surrounds provide the background "whoa where did that come from" sounds.....
