There is a small amount of Sony fanboyism that runs through this forum.
They find it hard to belive that a Samsung lcd that is a couple hundred dollars less then a Sony, is better.
And will argue until green.

Well I owned a 60hz 46" Samsung and after reading all the hype on the Sony, I wanted to replace it with a 52" xbr4...Until I looked at the Samsung 71 series. Im so glad I didnt listen to the bias Sony fans and actually took time to compare them together in the store under the same conditions playing the same movie.(Circuit City & Spiderman 3 Blu-ray @ 24fps). On both the picture and fast motion look amazing, dont get me wrong. But black levels are important to me. and the Sony just couldnt hang with the Sammy.

And you are right, Both Sony and Samsung LCD panels are made jointly in the same plant.

For the ones who couldn't tell a difference,
you need to get your eyes checked.

I did the exact move, from a 42'' 1080i set to a 46'' 1080p and there is obvious improvement.

Of course there's a lot of things to consider,
but to say there is no absolute difference is just crazy.

Nenmu is correct. Interesting thing is that alot of these people claiming no difference don't really understand the technology they've bought into. Those who claim to own a 1080i Digital Flat Panel think they are seeing a 1080 signal. The key is the native output resolution of the set. By their digital nature, a digital display cannot output 1080 interlaced, they only display progressive formats. 480p, 720p, and 1080p. Just because you input a 1080i signal, that doesn't mean you're seeing 1080i as the DFP electronics will take that signal and downconvert it to 720p. A 1080 signal is around 2 megapixel while 720 is around 1 megapixel. Their TV is taking the 1080i input, throwing out half of the pixels (resolution) and displaying 720 progressive.

So if they have an upconverting DVD player, it will take DVD 480i, deinterlace it (making it progressive) and the scale it up to 720. If they connect a 1080p source, it will take 1080p (and not all 720 displays can do this), downscale it to 720 (throwing out half the total pixel count) and display that.

They don't see the difference because there is none. If these folks would feed a 1080p source (input) to a native 1080p panel (output), they would have to be near blind to not see the difference.

Really? I heard that there was a long white line down the middle of the factory and that SONY is one side and Samsung the other- and that that is the only thing they share in common.

I think ur gettin this thread mixed up with another as I haven't seen anyone saying Sony is better. Unless u misread my reply to the OP, if so I will clarify. He asked me which one I liked better, not which one had better PQ. I responded with the Sony cause I prefer the user interface and the multitude of options and better built in speakers so I can turn off my surround late at night and not wake my roommates or neighbors....etc, there r more reasons as well.

But to the OP if I gave u the same impression, I don't notice a signifigant diff in PQ in the two. But I have only had the XBR4 for a week and am not done fiddling with it and havent got it calibrated yet.
